Re: Semo La Pass - highest pass in the world?

Pamir h/way was brilliant, went from Bishkek to Dushanbe via lake Son Kol. 6 4000m+ passes and and some 3500+. People were dead friendly but a lot of the roads were awful Only Had 5 weeks as my mate has to work, we did just over 1600kms and 17000mts climbing.

Re: Semo La Pass - highest pass in the world?

I've just got back from the Pamir highway and this makes it look a bit weedy! Have a look at this site http://www.adserballe.com/passes.htm
It seems it is quite posible to do it.

Re: pressurised liquid fuel bottles

I have both types cheap ones and expensive and have never had any problems. you could not get enough pressue in one with the small pump to get one to fail.

Royce rear hub lube.

I have a royce rear hub and i am looking to lube the pawls, does any one know the length of the plungers for a 130mm spindle? As 45 quid seems a lot exesive for two short bits of rod and a tube of grease.

Gas canisters in Bishkek.

I'm off to the Pamir highway next week, anyone know of a store in Bishkek where I can get gas canisters from? Just a lot easier than petrol. Thanks.

Re: Advice on bib shorts for touring needed

Decathalons top of the range shorts have a great pad. Saddles are a whole different kettle of fishes, no two bums are the same so you just have to keep trying until you find the right sort, for me its a Selle Italia Flite.

Re: panniers with all metal mountings?

I use a set of Crosso Expert, cordura panniers with big bullet proof metal fittings, fully waterproof roll top closures like Ortleib but a lot cheaper.

Re: Padded shorts

I already have a couple of pairs of MTB shorts and the pads are pretty thin things, nowhere near as good as proper cycling shorts for long days in the saddle.

Padded shorts

I'm trying to find a pair of ordanary style shorts with a proper sewn in pad, not the ones with a thin thing on some mesh type underpants inside. I don't want to wear undershorts, as this just means wearing two pairs of shorts and I can't see the point in that.
