Re: Gears feel rough
It changes up and down the gears perfectly. If the rear hanger was out of alignment would it not affect gear shifting?

Gears feel rough
When I’m pedalling every gear feels rough except 7th (smallest ring). Gear change is perfect in every gear however. I’ve recently replaced rear free wheel, chain, cables etc. It doesn’t sound rough when pedalling,it just feels rough through the pedals. Anyone suggest what it could be. Chain is clean a...

Re: Rear wheel ball bearing size?
most rear hubs use 9x 1/4" balls each side. A few off-brand cassette hubs use 7/32" balls on the RHS. cheers Thanks I was a bit hasty in the removal and they all fell out over my garage floor. So wasn’t sure. I found 16 but it Defo looks one short either side. I'm a trendy consumer. Just ...

Rear wheel ball bearing size?
I’m looking to replace my rear wheel bearings I’ve had them out and re greased but I’d like to just get new ball bearings. They are loose ball bearings not cage type. What size are they likely to be and how many should be in each side I’m guessing 9? Bike is a Giant Rock SE MTB Thanks I'm a trendy c...

Re: BB creak?
Given the "hit it with a hammer" statement I'd suggest the OP gets down to the LBS and asks the nice chap there to get the cranks off wit the proper tool before damage is done. AND buy a crank extractor (and learn how to use it) - no money on ebay from China. Rob ^ this Once there, ask th...

Re: BB creak?
The problem I also have is the crank arms are seized solid onto the BB shafts What have you tried so far? Did you use a crank extractor? Have you stripped the internal threads in both crank arms? Don't have a crank extractor. Threads are fine. I've soaked them in penetrating fluid and smacked the a...

Re: BB creak?
creaks can come from (literally) anywhere. A creak from the saddle/seatpin area can manifest itself in the same way as you describe. cheers I cycled for a while tonight off the seat but it still remained. Am I right in thinking it is most likely the BB bearing? Any tips on how,to get the seized cra...

Re: BB creak?
Well it might not, depending on where the cable is. I’m just trying to reconcile the sound with your description that it goes away when pedalling harder. That’s a mighty unusual creak, although if pedalling harder means going faster, wind noise might drown out the creak. Have you gone for a test ri...

Re: BB creak?
Are you sure it’s not just the crank hitting the loose end of the derailleur cable and bouncing it against the frame? That’s what it most sounds like in the video, although sound recordings can be deceptive. If so, it would go away on another chainring because the derailleur and loose end would be ...

BB creak?
I have had this annoying creak from bottom bracket area for a while. https://youtu.be/LE-Aj6_JuWI I have spent a bit of money recently renewing various parts on it and want to try and diagnose and cure this issue. The problem I also have is the crank arms are seized solid onto the BB shafts. So I’m ...

I have an old Giant Rock SE that is on 7 x 3 = 21sp
Would I need new front and rear mech, freewheel, shifter and chain to change my gearing to something more modern? Or would I need other parts also?
