Re: Looking for a set of pedals and shoes (newbie)

Can you kind people offer me some recommendations...? Don't bother with clips unless you need to eke out every watt of peak power and are willing to accept all the compromises of funny shoes, falls while learning and possibly after and so on. Good grippy rubber blocks are far better. Anyone else ag...

Re: Looking for a set of pedals and shoes (newbie)

So just to clarify.....

Single sided pedals means you can only use shoes with cleats....?

Double sided pedals you can use regular trainers/shoes on the other side?

Looking for a set of pedals and shoes (newbie)

Never had a set of clip on shoes and pedals before and have no clue what I should be using,it seems like there are an abundance of types and styles to choose from! Anyway,as you all probably know I just bought this https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180614/23b18e897a143c7ca2aded642c1671b0.jpg It cam...

Re: Opinions on this bike please

You could try letting a little air out & running them near minimum pressure instead of maximum. Personally, I would put some Continental Tour or Vittoria Randonneurs on there. And don't pump them up to the max recommended pressure. What pressure would you run them at? What is max and min pressu...

Opinions on this bike please

If the ride feels harsh, have a close look around the wheels to see if there is room for a slightly larger tyre, still leaving maybe 8mm between tyre and mudguard. The guards may be able to move out a bit further. If you are not sure, try to find someone who can look at it for you. Larger tyres can...

Re: Opinions on this bike please

I bought it https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180611/bf9d190be75052fbac706f6e5b492658.jpg Massive difference to anything I’ve ever ridden. A few things I’ve noticed after a quick 8mile cycle. It is extremely fast, however much harsher than my mtb. The front derailleur is an absolute dream to shift T...

Re: Opinions on this bike please

My mountain bike was just this sort of Gumtree bargain: if it fits and it feels good (do take it for a test spin) it's not like Giant are in the habit of making rubbish. I think I'd be inclined to change the saddle and add a rack, but neither are exactly expensive or rocket science and may not be s...

Thanks

Going to see bike tomorrow night.

Hopefully it’s as described

Re: Opinions on this bike please

I have messaged to ask a few questions. Age,if it's got receipt, how many miles,if it's original chain and cassette. It is a lot of bike (compared to the giant escape 3 2018) for same money but better spec. Obviously spares will be more expensive that the group set fitted to escape 3, however will th...

Re: Giant Roam 3 2018 on c2w scheme

Just back from the shop.

So it’s either the escape 2 disk or escape 2 with rim brakes.

I’d prefer the rim as I think there is less to go wrong than the hyrdraulic calipers.....

What do you all think?

Re: Giant Roam 3 2018 on c2w scheme

Well if you enjoy making your life difficult it's a good bike. There are much more suitable bikes for commuting within the Giant range. The Roam is intended for light trail riding and everything about it is aimed at that use. They keep changing the names but they do a series of very nice and we'll ...

Considering buying this bike on cycle to work scheme https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/roam-3-2018 Ticks all my boxes I think. Has anyone got any experience of it?
