Re: New bike help

How about this, it even has a hub dynamo, for £399. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/hoprider-500-urban-hybrid-bike-id_8405476.html A bit of a downside is the 16.9kg weight when the OP says their route includes a railway footbridge. Yeah that’s definitely not what I’m looking for. Don’t need storage spa...

Gears feel rough

blimey.... [emoji47] Suggestion; once the new chain is worn to about 0.4%, refit the old freewheel and run it for a week or two. Then try it with a new chain. If you are lucky it shouldn't skip with the 0.4% chain, and having been worn to match that, it ought to take a new chain OK too. cheers Not ...

Re: New bike help

You've unfortunately landed on the wrong side of 'trendy' in the current climate for wider tyres and drop bars to have much choice new and in that price range, especially with mudguard clearance. I'd go flat bar hybrid city bike and you'll definitely find something decent that ticks all the other b...

New bike help

Hi I'm on the lookout for a new bike for my short daily commute which is 1.5 miles x2=6 miles per day as I go home for lunch. The terrain is mostly road with a railway footbridge to climb up and down. It is a little gravely in sections and a few kerbs to go up and down. I'd like drop bars if possibl...

Gears feel rough

it is the cheapest SRAM chain and is known for not being as well hardened as others in the range. Even so I am surprised that it didn't last longer. A midrange KMC chain can't possibly be any worse than that, can it? [emoji47] cheers What would you recommend I switch to? It’s a 7x3 speed Also to me...

Re: Gears feel rough

That’s 2 SRAM pc830 chains and none of them have lasted 200miles.

Lubricated once a week every week

Re: Gears feel rough

The 2nd chain has now done 210miles. So far all I've done is thoroughly wipe the chain with a towel once a week and oil it using muc off wet lube after the wipe down. The chain not been cleaned using any solvent or chain bath etc. I'm pretty sure this chain has had it as well. It felt perfect when f...

Re: New Bike Recommendations

https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-laterite-1-2018-road-bike-EV299413 Just to start the discussion, this Evans own brand bike sort of fits the bill. At a glance, with mudguard fixing points and 57mm brake drop (gives more room than most between tyre and brake) it should take mudguards. Tyres are ...
