Re: Fear.

You don't ride in the UK do you?

My cycling has mostly been in Norfolk (UK), Texas, Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico.

Come July I will be riding the Inverness 1200.

Re: Fear.

Thankfully it is only a small minority and we do tend to forget all the considerate drivers we meet.

So very true. Where I ride most if not all drivers get over to the other side of the road when passing me. There are a few **** **** though and they do cause concern.

Re: Really creepy experience cycling home tonight (I did solve the mystery eventually)

Not quite the same, but on an overnight Audax ride through some very lonely country in the pitch black at about 2 in the morning I heard a lonely wailing coming across the fields like a woman in great torment. I was some miles from the nearest habitation but this entire area used to be slave plantat...

Re: Semaine Federale 2019 - Registering

It's a shame they don't have the web site in English as well, since most of the world speaks it and not that many speak French. :(

Re: Cycling UK (CTC Tours) LEJoGs 2019 (and we had an 85 yr old rider in Sept 2018)

As a parallel example of how tough cycling can be at times, I thought I'd share this comment from Captain Rudd walking across the Antarctic, which is exactly how I feel cycling into a fierce head wind at times: “On one day I battled for eight or nine hours and covered two nautical miles. I thought ‘...

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

Actually, although most of my rides are in the plus 100 mile range, all of my former riding buddies agree a 40 - 60 mile ride is the best of all.

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

I do think the concept of riding 100 miles or less a day makes perfect sense for a touring holiday but for me somehow I expect I would want to keep going rather than stopping off early in the day. I do realise though that finding adequate and reasonably priced accommodation suggests the value of sea...

Re: Lejog

I found this trip was more of a mental than physical challenge As an Audax cyclist doing long rides I agree that most rides are mostly mental rather than physical. It does require mental toughness to keep going for hundreds of miles a day in all conditions without finally screaming: "Oh dear! ...

Re: Lejog

Go on a long ride that'll take you all day, stay overnight, and then ride home. See how you feel.

Agreed, perfect advice particularly if you have a favourite aunt at the end of the first day who will put you up and take care for you if all goes belly-up.

I make that about 77 lbs, I just can't imagine wanting to pull that much load on a touring trip.

Re: Trailer users experience sought

Looks like a heavy bike even without the trailer. There is no way of knowing of course, but I expect most riders on the LeJog ride lighter weight road bikes and not off road bikes with suspensions. A previous poster shew his unweighted recumbent which weighs in at 30+ lbs, too much to move along for...

Mick F, can you tell us how you post pictures? It seems from the 'FAQ' page, that you have to have permission from the moderator, is this really the case?
