Re: systems lejog

Suggest you consider the WIMPS route ... available on this site ...

Any chance that route could be published here? There are over two million posts on that thread.

Cyclists killed riding LeJog

Just wondering, are there any statistics recording how many - if any - cyclists have been killed on the road riding LeJog. If there are - and have been - none, then in spite of all the dire warnings of the reckless nature on drivers, riding LeJog may not be any more dangerous than riding on a vehicl...

Re: Some Observations by a YHA warden

I simply cannot share rooms, even when on some of the longer rides a room is required and it is suggested we share rooms to cut the cost. After a few years in RAF barracks in the early days I decided I'd had enough of that. So, it's a bivvy for me even though that's not the most comfortable but I ha...

Re: Some Observations by a YHA warden

I just felt the luxuries of life mattered more to me now. :)

Careful, that luxuriously silk lined coffin might become enticing as well. :P

Re: Some Observations by a YHA warden

I didn't think there was an age limit for staying in YHA's or do you mean you were just too geographically old anyway for hostels  ?

Thanks for that Simmy.

BTW, are you available to be standing at the White Horse waving your arms to guide riders in the right direction? :P

Re: Getting to Lands End from Scotland to start

[quoteMy mother can as she describes it, 'sleep on the clothes line'quote] There was an American Indian working at our firm in the US and once on a plane he'd curl into a ball and be asleep as soon as the plane left the ground, whereas I would be staring fitfully out of the window unable to sleep fo...

Re: Getting to Lands End from Scotland to start

. A one-way hire from Inverness is two solid days of driving and you'll be knackered, I'd not even consider that!

That's my plan, but back to Heathrow. Seeing some sights along the way will make the ride up there worth while.

Re: Lands End - Taunton Route

I think I would take the point made by others above, that for those whose main aim is to ride from one end of the country to the other, ie, Lejog, that any detour for the sole purpose of looking at 'interesting' sites or over 'unusual' road surfaces is a detour too many.

Re: Cicerone Route - thoughts a week after finishing

The Cicerone guide was written by Nick Mitchell and published in 2012, so there are bound to have been changes since then. What is needed is for some other rider to either update it or produce another guide.

Re: Deloitte Ride Across Britain ( 2011 - ongoing )

Those road widths seem awfully narrow, although probably right for British roads, but are you actually stating a single lane width so double for total width? In any case, I didn't think there was a standard width and roads just sort of happened developing often from muddy lanes to tarmacked surfaces...

Re: Deloitte Ride Across Britain ( 2011 - ongoing )

I think all 'organised' or charity rides create their own set of chaotic mass movement on the roads. A local one to me has 13,000 riders for 160 miles over two days in the Spring and the only way that ever works is to have loads of paid police at each intersection and police outriders keeping the mo...

Re: A6 North of Lancaster

Were they mostly in groups or solos? Finding the best time of the year to ride the entire length is often a matter of preferring to go when the days are longer but that usually means summer months which also coincides with the heaviest traffic. Other considerations are ease of finding reasonably pri...
