Re: Achilles Tendinitis

When it starts to give me trouble, it doesn't start as pain. It's sort of a mix of mild numbness and a strange niggling twitchiness, but if I carry on it will eventually turn into pain. AlanO - I totally identify with your description. But this seems to be a barrier to an Achilles tendinitis diagno...

Re: Bells

Can anyone recommend a decent 'non-ping' bell? With mine I find it nearly impossible to apply the correct amount of 'ping force' - either too much and it scares the living daylights out of people, or too little and the clapper misses the body of the bell altogether, resulting in no sound!

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Hi Natural Ankling Aside from the cycling and dancing, when I am well my other activities include gardening and visiting parks/gardens/countryside etc which involves a fair bit of walking. I usually wear trainers for anything like that. Even when 'well' I can't really do much brisk walking anymore b...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Thanks for your experiences Matthew, another one without pain! :D I saw a physio yesterday. She is not convinced about Achilles tendonitis as the diagnosis because of the lack of pain. My doctor thought it could be compression of the sciatic nerve, but the physio doesn't think it is that because my ...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Thanks Natural Ankling, good luck with your problems too!

It is probably nothing so simple, but all I can suggest for the calves is using the foam roller if they are tight. Best wishes!

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Quick update - saw my doctor this morning. He thinks at least one aspect of my problems is compression of the sciatic nerve because of the numbness I get. He has referred me to the Muscular Skeletal Clinic where they can look at all possible aspects of this. I won't risk any strengthening exercises ...

Thanks for the suggestion John. I am seeing my GP tomorrow, I will ask if there is one in my area.

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Thanks Fraz, looks like numbness is an Achilles symptom then.

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Regarding bike set up, I was 'fitted' at the bike shop (Evans) when I bought my bike. Basically, saddle high enough that I nearly straighten my leg at the bottom of a stroke, low enough to still put the ball of my foot on the floor when I stop. I cycle with the peddle in my arch/slightly to the fron...

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Fraz101, thanks for your response. I am glad you have recovered now! I find your response really interesting, that you had pretty much the worst Achilles injury but no pain. Pain seems to be fundamental to a clear diagnosis. Can I ask, what did you feel during your recovery?

Re: Achilles Tendinitis

Wow thanks for so many responses. A few questions were raised by multiple posts, so I'll respond to those first. In terms of can I follow a disciplined physio programme: I have had physio for various previous injuries, inc. Sprained ankle, frozen shoulder, tight ITB and a neck injury. For those my t...

Peroneal tendinopathy

I'm not a very hardcore cyclist, I just cycle to work each day (about 3 miles each way). I ride a hybrid and don't go particularly fast. I hope no one minds me posting on here, but the cycling is a cause of my injury, and I haven't found a general health forum where many people respond to Achilles t...
