Re: What tours have you done? What do you want to do?

Reading this fills me with despair. I’d LOVE to do a tour. But there is no way my wife would be remotely interested. So I don’t think it will ever happen. Closest I have ever done was when I was 19 a friend woke up one day and decided to ride to another of his friends 140 miles away. Asked if I woul...

Re: Interfering stranger lecturing my son about bike clothing

I did no such thing as to threaten an elderly man at all. Simply that the thought would have crossed my mind. To hav3 a thought and then reject it is not in any way assault.

As for the woman. If she will insist on belittling children for trying to be polite I see no wrong in telling her off

Re: Interfering stranger lecturing my son about bike clothing

The last time I offered a woman a seat I wished the floor would open and swallow me up. Side track. But this twitches a nerve. Saw it happen to my friends younger brother (about 6y/o) when he opened a door for a woman. She scoffed at him and said woman aren’t invalids and she refused to walk throug...

I would have Found myself resisting the temptatoin to simply state... but helmets are VERY useful. And then battered him around the head with mine, And told him he should have been wearing one.

Sigh. Can’t help you. My daughter is 14years old and she breaks down and cries if I even suggest she should try sitting on one while it’s still in a rack at the store

Re: Ten Miles a day - 2018

I have not done any “pleasure” cycling. Strictly commuting with is only 3.5miles each way 5 days a week. So I’m WELL behind on 10 miles a day. But I’m happy to say that 2 days after being mowed down by a white van man I did 17 miles today.

Re: Should you have lights on during the day?

Changed my mind... doesn’t matter any. Of it. I had my obnoxiously bright high vis helmet on my bright yellow hi vis jersey with reflective strips on in. My flashing red light on the back. ******* still hit me with his van today. Doesn’t matter how visible you are people just see red when approachin...

Re: Should you have lights on during the day?

It’s like the helmets. I’m certain some people are dead against it for no reason than having something to gas about. Lights/helmets aren’t going to kill you. Just get on with them. A call for blind obedience in contrast to considering the facts. The attitude of "just getting on with it" w...

Re: How to hillstart on a steep lane

I was BTW only jesting. My wife always bangs on about this “massive” hill she had to walk up every day to college. It’s a half mile out off my commute but I had to investigate. Running 3*8 on my second hand MTB in my 2nd bottom gear willing myself to try harder and not to engadge the lowest. Had I n...

Re: How to hillstart on a steep lane

Most rides I do are about 100ft per mile of ascent. Last ride, was 38miles and 3,900ft of climbing and I never even noticed until I uploaded my stats. At that rate I’m surprised a space shuttle isn’t required to get to Cornwall. And being there all you would need to get to the moon is a short rope ...

Re: Winter Cycling Gloves ?

At some point when it gets cold this winter I will be trying my motorcycle gloves. I reckon they will be awfull but if they could do the job at 70mph in 2degrees. They have potential. The nice thing about the motorcycle gloves is all the bulk is on the back of hands and fingers. So the inside of the...
