Re: Winter or summer, which is worse?
This seems an ambiguous question.Winter has fewer daylight hours and arguably bad weather has less chance to manifest itself.Coversely there is less scope for sunshine. In Britain raely get too hot but often too cold.

The immigants to UK are usually younger, poorer yet more open, educated and less complacent compared with the ex-pats developing leathery skin and risking alcoholism while smuggling jars of Marmite fish-paste and flavoured crisps.

Re: Swapping chainsets
Thanks very much for detailed advice. You are right to suggest a super compact but the cost is prohibitive.I may swap cassetteb to 13-32 and fit new chain- I have both already in my "magic drawer".May buy used super after a year or two

Re: TV licensing...
Those people advocating ending the license pay when buying items which are advertised, perhaps unconsciously. Therefore people pay to watch "free" ITV and freeview channels.I woiuld argue aspects of the BBC are essential like news and weather forecasts.I feel sorry for people so poor a license is unaffordable.

Swapping chainsets
I have a modern-type Tiagra double chainset(compact) which I wish to replace with a triple using a taper fit chainset and a compatible Shimano sealed bottom bracket.I know the modern chainsets are different and may lack the threads needed for a Shimano bottom bracket. If no threads can I use a push-fit type bottom bracker. It is a Genesis Vapour with an aluminium frame, which may have more vulnerable threads than a steel-equivalent.I bought it second-hand but want a greater range of gears, but at a push could fit a new cassette with a max of 32 teeth, rather than the existing 28 teeth. We have 20pc gradients so extra otpions are welcome.
Thanks

You are not subsidising me.Also you presumably fund a very small part of the NHS,but in any given year you may not benefit from its services. It is about helping people other than yourself, and when you are poor and sick, they help you.

I would take a sum of money from a deceased estate, depending on longevity.A figure of £100 per adult year would mean a person of 83,upon death would pay a fee of £6500,with exemptions for spells inprison, blindness, deafness and people living in Yorkshire.

Re: Cheese shop.
I thought cats chased mice because mice enjoy bathing in milk, but milk not deep enough to drown the mouse.A saucer of mlik,of a gauge approx 5-8 mm will allow a mouse to clean up,but obviously when leavingb the bath, its prints will allow curious cats to locate them.Cats do not like milk laced with mites and rodent urine.

Re: Cheese shop.
They certainly eat cheese, but they do so to acheve balance and calcium, but they like peanut butter, and never eschew a nibble.Mice like children take the easy option.

Re: Cheese shop.
Mice have never liked cheese, but if you need to trap these rodents they crave peanut butter, chocolate and raisins. The myth about mice and cheese was fostered by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_Cheese_Union

Re: Pre-owned costing more than new.
In the 1930s,when I began serious cycling people bought up tubular tyres, stored in dark for several years to harden, and then sold them for more, once matured.I think the same principle suely applies to bottles of wine which are considered an investment for speculators, clothing worn by Kym Kardboardashian and other pre-owned items formerly owned by celebrities eg Corbyns allotment spade and Theresa Mays pixie boots, worn in HMs presence.

The alternatives to Tories were judged unacceptable by the electorate, after an unfavourable representation by the media etcHowever the Labour manifesto lacked coherence and I felt it was a shopping list of ill-considered options. For example, did we really need free broadband?Do all workers, especially those on low hourly wages, want a shorter working week? The manifesto made a shredding job all the easier.

Surely thius applies to many antique items, paintings by artists like Bacon and Freud and even some rare bikes, such as ones ridden by Wigans and Frume, winners of TDK?
