Actually we whould be highly surprised, since the common feature of all previous major riots in the UK is that they occur in spring/summer - the June to August window being the most popular.

Utter tosh. I strongly suggest you get a decent dictionary and look at the parts where, after the word, they indicate its enunciation. Uttering Wednesday the way you suggest would flag the speaker as either weird or someone for whom English wasn't their first language.

Tesla made a profit of $20 Billion last year and its largely on track to do the same this year. It's Twitter that doesn't make money despite a huge revenue.Tangled Metal wrote: ↑31 Oct 2022, 10:41pm Has tesla made a profit yet? Last time I was bored enough to read about it tesla had never made a profit.

You forgot to also include the assets, revenue, patents, cash in hand, loans, liabilities, etc. etc. etc. Who controls that all and has the authority to sign things matters to the money markets. And then let's not forget a little thing called SpaceX, valued at $127 Billion and half-owned by Musk. You may not like it, but its Musk that matters to the money market whilst sadly Dilbert in engineering doesn't.Psamathe wrote: ↑31 Oct 2022, 6:14pmIs Elon the "value" in Tesla or is it the engineers, designers, production teams, etc. that design, build & sell the product? (all on occasions despite Elon's antics).sizbut wrote: ↑31 Oct 2022, 6:07pm Many of the lenders are also heavily invested in Tesla and/or have loaned money to it. So they have a vested interest in trying to keep Elon floating since it would affect the value of their stake in an 850 billion dollar enterprise. So possibly painful, but small price to pay in comparison. And at least it comes with an asset that might be turned around rather than the hefty court and stock market he might have been heading for.

Re: Are we all Trussed up...
For any winning bet, you get 100% of your stake back, and in this case it would be with an additional 18% of winnings on top of that. Now, I don't bet, but nor do I know any investment that will pay me 18% interest. So laugh if you want, but if dingdong has the money to spare, then its their money and their choice.
And a 5/6 on bet is exactly the same as a 5/6 bet or a 5:6 or 5/6 to win or which ever way you want to express it to a bookmaker. The "on" or "to win" (both mean same thing) is implied unless you specifically state something different such as against, to place or each way.

And with your '4 to 1 on' example you forgot that you also get your original stake back if you win. So your £4 bet would get you £5 back.

In French 'poids' just means weight.I noticed on a recent visit to France that some market traders were using poids.

And strangely enough, male drivers out number female drivers by 3 to 1 (https://www.iihs.org/topics/fatality-st ... nd-females). Statistics and journalists rarely mix well, especially if it gets in the way of a headline.

No. And yes. The arrow there is 100% a government broad arrow. The additional line above is a survey mark for height, but the arrow below is still a broad arrow (the OS stopped using this combination of marks in 1993).

Are you sure. Arrow marks like that were also widely used on anything that was government property (including prisoners clothes).Jdsk wrote: ↑30 Sep 2022, 9:47pmIt's a benchmark used as a reference elevation for surveying.
They're now obsolete, but here's an archive:

Re: Glasgow 2023 Worlds Routes?
@irc - Cheers. Yes, I kicked myself late last night for not remembering that both the UCI Worlds and Commonwealth games road races were in Glasgow in 2014. A Google image search then threw up much better maps than the current issued one .
And yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they use the same or very similar for 2023. So some of the old maps against the new description to do, but a bit more confidence now.

Re: Glasgow 2023 Worlds Routes?
Many thanks. Yes, the planning includes working out where to be based in Glasgow on each of the weekends and in Stirling during the week, so that's exactly what's needed for the time trial part.

Glasgow 2023 Worlds Routes?
For the worlds in Harrogate, more by good luck than anything else, we ended up just short ride from the time trial course and on the elite riders road route. A big bonus given the rain to be able to time watch on telly and yet still pop out live each time the riders passed.
So the routes have been release for Glasgow 2023. But so far, despite Google's best help, I've only been able to locate very low detail indications of the routes.
Does anyone know any sites with more detailed maps of the likely routes*, especially the circuit in Glasgow city centre.
*Yes, I accept that things have potential to change at lot in the 12-months before the event so no blame will be attached.
