Gumtree and scammers

I used Gumtree several years ago to sell a bike successfully and thought I'd use it again.
I was contacted by three different numbers via Whatsapp within 12 hours. - all 3 were scammers and ultimately were after my bank/card details.
I think they are somehow automated as replies came back very quickly, were almost identical in wording and didnt make much sense.

The 3rd chat went like this.
Scammer: Is the bike still for sale
Me: yes
Scammer: I want to ask you in what condition is your product and does it have any defects?
Me:Interesting your wording is identical to the other scammer. Before you ask for my card/bank details, its cash on collection, nothing else.
Scammer: Please tell me why you are selling?
Me: I like wasting the time of scammers like you.
Scammer: How much did you use ... ? And when was it bought?
Me: I use it 25 hrs a day , 8 days a week.
Scammer: May I know your location?
Me: Alpha Centauri.
Scammer: I would like to arrange delivery of your goods by Gumtree courier, you will receive money to an account convenient for you, the courier will pick up the goods from you and pack it, is it convenient for you to do this? I will arrange and pay for everything myself!

I dont think I'll bother with Gumtree anymore.

Mick F wrote: 10 Mar 2022, 8:23pm Thanks, but that is what they were going to do to me as an interim measure.
They still wouldn't do it with high BP so that was the end of that as far as they are concerned.
My BP isn't high unless I'm in a hospital.

Waiting for a contact again from them, but I'm coming to the idea that 531colin suggested up-thread.

Amputation.
That's only going to work if you follow the Ranulph Fiennes approach of DIY with domestic power tools. And he still needed a surgeon to tidy it all up later.

You've posted many blood pressure readings taken at home that are elevated. So it isn't only high when you're in a hospital.

But I don't understand why your blood pressure is getting in the way of either surgery or the injection of collagenase. Many people undergo much longer and more complex procedures with bigger problems of blood pressure that you've described in the forums.

I suggest communicating with the surgeon well before your appointment, including what you think is happening with your blood pressure and the two other relevant factors that you have shared with us. If it were me I'd want to have a single plan in advance for what procedure is to be carried out, the workup before the procedure, and the type of anaesthesia.

And, as always, I recommend writing down the questions that you'd like answered so that they aren't forgotten during the consultation.

I hope that it goes well.

Jonathan
You probably should have a review by the anaesthetist, even if a regional anaesthetic is proposed, as its usually the "gasman" that has to deal with the hypertension rather than the surgeon. Otherwise alarm bells will ring every time you turn up for the op.

Re: GPX files to Osmand

I use OsmAnd quite a bit.
For cycling, hiking and driving and often upload GPX files.

To load GPX files into OSMAnd on your phone is quirky because android file/folders structure isnt the same as Win10.

This is how I do it from my PC to my Motorola G8 power android phone.
1) connect phone USB to PC.
2) set phone's USB settings to "file transfer" from "charging".
3) On the PC open the phone - shows for storage devices within the phone. "internal shared storage" and "SD card" - but phones vary .
4) Find where your Osmand is located. youre looking for a folder "net.osmand.plus".
5) the GPX file sget stored in a subfolder called "tracks" . mine is at: "this pc/moto g(8)plus/internal shared storage/android/data/net.osmand.plus/files".
6) In "net.osmand.plus/files" there should be a folder called "tracks". If not, create one. This is where to copy GPX files from PC to your phone. 7) Osmand runs the GPX from there.
7) You can create subfolders with "tracks" to say separate hikes from cycle routes etc

In what way is the underseal you are referring to different to the underseal I spray underneath my car ? It sounds like some sort of primer paint.

Shimano compatible disc brake pads

I'm struggling to find some Shimano L03A pads (resin/finned). They are also very expensive compared to other makes of pad.

I was wondering if there are any recommended Shimano compatible pads that could replace these and what are peoples' experiences of using aftermarket disc brake pads.

I'm currently running L03A on the rear and K04S (metal/unfinned) on the front. I am concerned (maybe wrongly) that the latter's sintered metal pad will chew through the disc. Any thoughts from users of these; metal pads vs resin ones ?

Re: Self-driving car users should have immunity from offences

If we changed to a better (IMO) insurance system like in France and Australia where the vehicle is insured rather than the driver it would be easier to set up.

Watching TV whilst driving - the future

I see there are proposals to allow users of self driving cars to watch TV at the same time as driving. But not to use their phones - because that is dangerous.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-61155735

And that
"They will also lay out that users of self-driving cars will not be responsible for crashes.
Instead insurance companies, not individuals, will be liable for claims in many circumstances, the DfT said."

That's assuming they are insured in the first place, which increasingly it seems is something people are not bothering with.

I wonder with all the new tech being introduced could we not have the vehicles self-checking to see if they are insured, taxed and MOT'd etc and refusing to move if not.

Re: What Has Made You Laugh Today ?

Changing the subject completely but staying with the thread.
I had to laugh this morning when the lorry driver that negotiated our narrow, single track lane to deliver a large pallet of honey jars and lids couldn't unload because he'd forgotten the key to activate the lorry's tail-lift. He's now on the way back to the depot to get one. Muppets everywhere.

North Warwickshire. But no need as a friend popped round this morning with his old SPD-SL cleats, plates and screws as he has gone back to SPD for his road bike. He finds SPD more convenient if you want to walk anywhere eg to take photos
