Re: New idea for navigating LEJOG?
Garmin Edge 1000.
Very pleased with it. Battery life is a bit short but I've now got my workarounds.
I'd buy an Edge 1030 if I were looking now.

The information watchdog has agreed to look into a challenge to secrecy surrounding a key statement made by police investigating Dominic Cummings’ lockdown journeys.

ITV will air the programme on Monday, March 8 after striking a deal with the network to acquire the rights for a reported £1 million. What time is Harry and Meghan Oprah interview? ITV/STV will show the programme at 9pm https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/19142132.meghan-harry-oprah-watch-interview...

Re: New idea for navigating LEJOG?
I'm not sure you need turn by turn navigation. I've never used it in a decade of touring using Garmins (Etrex Hcx and Etrex 20x )Just download your route and follow the pink line (or whatever colour), when zoomed in its quite easy. The only turn by turn navigation I use is on my phone when I'm clos...

Re: New idea for navigating LEJOG?
My personal issue is that the information that I would include in the audio description to myself may not match the visual clues to which I would be seeking whilst riding. It's very easy to say 'when in Bodmin turn right at the third bend' however without any visual clues and dealing with other tra...

BTW I totally disagree about the importance of detailed political proposals in a cycling forum. We're not going to deliver them by posting here. What interests me here is others' views on the broad direction of travel that we should be following. I think the issue is beyond the direction we should ...

Re: Nurses Pay Award
This is very typical and, in the 29 years I’ve worked for the NHS, I cannot recall a instance, outside of multi year agreements, where a pay rise has ever been paid on time. Good point. For those unfamiliar with PRBs I'd also add governments accepting recommendations but not funding them. Jonathan

Re: Obesity epidemic and our addiction to oil
Thanks. I don't think that you were moralising, but I'm pretty sensitive to that in the area of health, both individual and public. It doesn't get us anywhere. And in the same vein overattribution to genetic causes could get in the way of what we can change here and now... which is quite a lot. We k...

OK then. How do you propose to adequately separate those powers? I recommend Turnbull's thoughts from 2009: https://www.ft.com/content/73f524ca-4faa-11de-a692-00144feabdc0 The big problem is the inadequate separation of powers between the Legislature and the Executive, and the increasing powers of ...

Re: Obesity epidemic and our addiction to oil
Yes. We're discovering more and more about the rôles of both genes and hormones in obesity and related stuff. In marked contrast to "It's my hormones" being ridiculed not so long ago. People (like me) who naturally eat sensibly have a defective gene. I'd be very wary of drawing any conclus...

Give me a concrete proposal. Some change that could be implemented that will do what you think. "let's have greater transparency" means nothing to me. Tell me what you want to happen. An act of parliament, a change to a regulation, a constitutional change. But something. Please read what ...
