Re: Runcorn Widnes Bridge Reopened

I grew up near Widnes and can just remember going on the old transporter bridge, and the excitement of watching the new bridge being built to replace it. St Helens, and ditto for the Transporter. (And walked up a tower of the Bilbao Transporter a few years ago.) I don't remember the new bridge bein...

Re: Obesity epidemic and our addiction to oil

The human body is designed (like most mammals) to eat when food is plentiful, so we have a fat reserve for when the food supply has gone. Trouble is, in the modern western world, food is always plentiful - hence an obesity epidemic. Yes. But it isn't only in "the modern western world". Di...

Re: Brittany Ferries update

Not Brittany, but I read today via my Google newsfeed that a ferry company is "planning" to open a new route from Poole to Morocco. It will be roro, take 3 days, but didn't say if it would take passengers. Would be good for Morocco or as a way to get to southern Spain. I don't expect this...

New company. No details.

weren't they the ones who were going to restart Harwich - Esjberg?

Did that ever get beyond a campaign?

Re: Parts from the UK

I'm even less convinced that we're only seeing "teething pains". The grace periods have already led to accusations of bad faith and look like ending up in court. And the Cabinet Office has just had a letter of reprimand from the UK Statistics Authority for using unpublished and unverifiabl...

It does not follow from this that the same is true in other settings at other times.

Re: Nurses Pay Award

There is another point which l don't think is addressed in terms of nurse retention. How many leave the NHS but don't leave nursing as they want to go onto agency books or into the private sector? I don't know but l do know that about 6/7 years into her career my wife was directly approached by a d...
