Re: Regenerative braking on an e-bike.

I am genuinely disappointed how slow the tech advances for battery and things like solar and regeneration are concerned. What's the problem? Is there simply not enough profit in ebikes as compared to electric cars?

Re: Ice pack alternative

Gel based Aloe Vera. I've used it in everything from cuts to hard knocks off the tarmac. Works a treat.

Re: Intimidating Motorists?

I saw what I thought at the time quite a humourous intervention. Group of roadies out for their Saturday morning training when coming up to a set of reds the driver overtakes to get in front and clips one of the guys with his near side mirror. Obviously they come to halt at a red, the guy who has be...

Sudden Unexpected Catastrophic Collision.

The Audi TT with its aluminium bonnet took it quite badly

Re: Mysterious falling off bike

Better than the SUCC I had with an Audi TT last year, at a set of traffic lights.

Re: Running 135mm hubs in a 130 frame

I've tried this in an aluminium frame before and it wasn't a problem, however it was a very good quality Alu frame, a cheaper one might not be so forgiving..

Oh how I long for the days when the only choice between bottom brackets was English or Italian threading!

Re: Iain's 2019 LeJog

Single rooms are usually nearly as expensive as double ones, though - a YHA is probably the best value for a lone traveller if you can stand them ( I can't!). Coming back from the Hebs I got a single room with all the trappings ( towels, soaps, tea coffee) in Glasgow for £25. A guest house in a sub...

Re: Keeping your brain alive in retirement - what do you do?

A while to go yet for me, but I was quite a decent amateur landscape and portrait painter when I was young. Been a long time since I held a brush though..

Re: Looking for an E-bike

For a Bosch powered bike you're going to struggle on 1500 budget. But it's not impossible. EBay is good for new ebikes at massive discount. Best bet.

Re: Cycling for weight loss - Advice sought

I lost about 16lbs last year on the 5:2 fast diet. So, you fast on 600cals a day (egg or omelette breakfast, fruit for lunch and normal 300-400cal dinner) two days a week. They can't be consecutive days. I normally picked Tue/Thu. The evening from 8pm till bedtime can be tough but I nibbled my way t...

Re: Route suggestions - Northern France

St Malo down towards Quimper is stunning, mostky small villages and quiet little roads, with the odd chateau thrown in. I did it maybe 25 years ago when it was very cheap (pre euro). We spent about 10 quid a day between two of us for restaurants. I would imagine eating out in France is a lot more co...
