Re: Which budget hybrid to buy?

I'd get the boardman, actually I'd get the boardman hybrid without suspension and join British cycling and order it via quidco then pick up and use the bc 10 percent discount

That's what I did I have the 2016 hybrid team bike I got in the black Friday sales. Quidco was doing a special cash back offer and bike was reduced, paid 409 all in bargain :)

I fitted 35mm tyres and guards and a rack , great bike for the money

Re: Woodburning Stoves

Mercalia do you think you could use your stove with a trangia sat in the bottom rather than fuel would the gel fuel Base be big enough to sit one on. Thanks

Re: Hit by car in cycle path, National Route 2

There are lots of stupidly designed cycle paths but at the end of the day you approached and crossed a give at 20 and that I'm afraid is on you. Unfortunately we are required to slow and check all around us and cross the junction with care not at speed. And the only way around this is to campaign for better designed cycle routes, but I don't think that's going to work in this country

Re: Tower Block Disaster

It's a legal requirement for workplace extinguishers unfortunately training on the use if them appears to be limited to one person in said work place. (due to govt cutbacks we now only offer advice rather than enforcement, and we no longer routinely visit premises to inspect it's now all about fitting household smoke detection)

People are told to leave a fire in much the same way we are told not to jump in a lake for a dog, as it potentially creates more casualties. A new house can be built a new pet can be bought but you only live once

Fire deaths are through the roof nationally though and that's nothing to do with extinguishers it's to do with money, from shutting stations, cutting inspection times all the way down to penny pinching on building construction methods and materials

Re: Fast Hybrid? Giant Rapid v Boardman Hybrid Team

I've got the boardman it's lovely, very comfortable and smooth. I've got 35mm schwalbes on it guards and a rear rack. If you join British cycling you get 10 percent off too. I I Highly recommend it

I also have a pinnacle mountain bike and they are a well made / brand despite being non mainstream

Re: Tower Block Disaster

We tell people to leave a fire to us as invariably over the years those that have tried to fight the fire have been a body I've had to drag out
Unfortunately since the cuts began to bite we have had more and more fatalities due to slower response times as we have less stations pumps and manpower than ever before. In my brigade We have had more fatalities in the last year than the previous ten put together and it's a similar story around the country . And it's all down to penny pinching. Sad sad state of affairs

Re: Cycle lanes putting ambulance patients lives at risk [Telegraph]

We have to travel up and down the Leeds Bradford super cycle highway (nice name) every day as the station sits on it and it doesn't affect our response times in the slightest and we are in a much bigger fire engine
