Windproof longs were a revelation for me. I have a Campag pair and an Adidas pair neither cheap but they have repaid the investment 100 fold. I do commute daily. Decent overshoes and wool socks will save your feet no need IMHO to ditch the clips. The winter Buff is a multi functional cheap investmen...

All above correct. An English threaded BB will be 68mm, Italian 70mm, 73 is usually MTB. When you get the old cartridge out there may well be a label with the sizes on it. The Italian are a different diameter as well.
