Re: Mio 300 - any good?

There are levels and levels though. Google cycle specific route from Wantage to St Albans runs you down the M40. Motorways are a basic coding deny in a cycle route plotter.

Re: Mio 300 - any good?

Depends what it is using for its' "bike friendly route" Google's bike routing software is average at best and I cant see it improving fast as most people will use it for routing in unfamiliar areas so won't be able to suggest decent routes.

Re: converting a triple to a compact

That depends whether your triple is 110BCD or not. Your chainline will be a bit outboard if you remove the inner ring or you'll need a set of single ring bolts if you remove the outer. There should be enough adjustment in your mech stops to prevent the overshift. It won't be perfect but it should wo...

Re: Kids helmets do diddly squat....

Precisely, no helmet on earth can prevent rotational injuries. They are designed to stop you stoving your skull in.

If you can find any helmet that protects against "rotational injuries" good luck. They are designed to protect against impact injuries.

Re: Adjustable Quill Stem (AQS for short)

What length stem are we looking at? XLC make adjustable quill stems the 80mm is @400g.

There is the option of converting to AHead stems by using a Steerer Extender which will raise your stem and you need not use an adjustable at all.

Re: How to dissasmble a Shimano R400 brake lever?

I havent got one to hand but looking at the tech docs it looks similar to an sti lever. Underneath the lever in the body you'll see a tiny grub screw holding the pivot pin in place. Undo and tap the pivot pin out.

Re: which adjustable spanner?

Adjustable spanner = always the wrong size. Put it in the scrap bin with pump action screwdrivers and get the right size spanner </rant> I think I would agree. Always use a proper fitting spanner, preferably ring but you can't do this on pedals. However I think OP is looking for minimal tools so he...
