Re: Identifying BB taper JIS versus ISO

Just dismantled everything and found that the new Shimano triple chainset needs a far shorter BB, furthermore the old BB bearings were dry and rusty, so an easy decision - I've fitted a much shorter Shimano cartridge BB and everything works fine. Thanks for advice anyway!

Identifying BB taper JIS versus ISO

I wish to replace the original Stronglight triple chainset on my c.1990 Peugeot trekking bike with a modern Shimano triple. Am I right to assume that the original BB for this vintage would be ISO and therefore unsuitable for a Shimano chainset. Is there a method of identifying the two types of chamf...

Re: left hand thumb shifter mount for road bars.

My flat-to-drop conversion works well with old thumbshifters for front and rear mechs. They're mounted directly onto the bars, each one an inch or so outboard from the stem. They fall easily to hand when riding on the tops. I used slightly longer bolts as the road bars were a bit fatter than the fla...

BB taper ISO onto JIS

My circa 1990 Peugeot Stanford trekking bike has a Stronglight chainset and, presumably, bottom bracket. I wish to fit a Shimano chainset. Can anyone confirm whether the existing bb is likely to be ISO taper on a French bike of this vintage? If so, is it feasible to fit the Shimano chainset?

Llanwrtyd Wells trails information

I'm looking for a publication listing day-rides around Llanwrtyd, on and off road. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Shipping a bike to Spain?

I'm advertising my bike in the For Sale section (Nelson 531 Tourer) and I've had an enquiry from someone in Spain. Has anyone any suggestions for shipping it to Spain at reasonable cost?

Napa Valley, California

We're going on a non-cycling family holiday based in central San Francisco and my wife and I are planning a 3 day side trip cycling the Napa Valley wine country. Any advice? We're looking for accommodation (in Napa town?) with bike rental nearby. Is it possible to get from SF to Napa by public trans...

Re: Parking in Andover, Hants

Enjoy. I assume you mean Wyke Down - a helpful and friendly site, with good beers too :) The NCN246 out of Andover is very pleasant, but some of it can get a bit muddy after rain on the section between Fullerton and Stockbridge, but the Clatford / Longstock route is an alternative. I think that 'wh...

Re: Parking in Andover, Hants

Thanks, in fact we are indeed planning to go south from Andover down NCN246 Test Valley to Romsey. We sorted the parking problem, a campsite just east of Andover will allow us to leave the car there. I now have another question  : the OS Landranger map shows a white road running due south from...

Parking in Andover, Hants

We're doing a circular cycle tour in the area at the end of August and need to leave our car for 4 days in or near Andover. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried the Council, also the website "Park at my house" but they have no spaces. We're happy to pay a reasonable rate.

Re: Reading to Banbury Train

The tickets have arrived in the post! However there's no mention of bike reservations. The helpline tell me that it's sufficient to quote to the guard the 8 digit bike reservation references which they gave me, there'll be nothing in writing. I'm a natural pessimist when it comes to taking a bike on...

Re: Reading to Banbury Train

Back to the original thread. We've now decided not to chance unbooked places on local trains because we couldn't take the slight risk of jeopardising our tour plan. We are now formally booked in pairs with bike reservations on consecutive Cross Country trains 30 minutes apart, the leading pair will ...

Re: Adderbury, Oxon cyclable bridleway?

We're doing the trip in August. I have another question: there's a bridlepath starting at OS SP453253 and ending at SP460224. It turns Southeast off the Whistlow to Steeple Barton lane and runs past Barton Abbey, Barton Lodge and Newbarn Farm. It looks like an interesting short cut for our trip, but...

Adderbury, Oxon cyclable bridleway?

Does anyone know if this path is cyclable (laden touring bikes): it's less than 3 miles long and it runs in a fairly straight line Southeastwards from the A4260 just South of Adderbury (OS SP470346) passes near Adderbury Grounds Farm, and emerges in the village of Clifton (OS SP487318).
