Re: Derailleur Hanger alignment tool ?

There it comes a decent design: the sliding gauge has a round hole and a screw to hold, so you can use anything that is round and is 1/4" or 6mm. In fact, you can even use an allen key.
Indicators? , or the ones that are under the Campagnolo brake adjusters, are perfect for the job.
Can't be easier than that.

If a play-free tool were difficult/expensive to make or of no advantage whatsoever, then it might be acceptable to have a wobbly one (that can put the kiss of death on damaged threads too). However it wouldn't even be expensive or difficult to make the tool to a better design. As it is, it is an almost perfect example of a crap design; it costs a fortune, it is (or soon becomes) wobbly, it can cause damage where there is no need for it and the design is easily improved upon.

Use an o-ring, the ones that come with tubeless valves

Apologies first as I not sure how to get the words I want on from somebody rises post

Its mentioned about the small O rings on the park tool pointers
Where can you get these as I have split mine and also the small O rings in the gas C02 valves as I now have 2 of these needing the O rings
There not the things you can easily pick up in hardware shop and I'm not sure what you mean by the ones on a tubeless valve

Thanks
Duh.

cheers
The problem is how much play is acceptable vs strength of the tools vs cost.
So here are a few facts about the Park Tool one:
-it's made with good materials that do last many years of daily use in workshops all around the world
-the housing for the main pivot is a substantial piece of steel that won't deform
-to prevent damage in the threads, and avoid wear in the pivot housing, the pivot is replaceable and doesn't cost a fortune
-having seen and used a few, in different times and locations, the pivot will get up to 5mm play (on a 700c wheel) in no less than 5 years of daily use
-the sliding gauge is made in a way that will keep its position even after thousands of uses
-for the above, the design is made so that it can accept virtually anything that fits a 1/4" hole (in a pinch, you could even use a skewer)
-its covered by warranty worldwide
-the one that's not happy can resell it anytime, the brand helps a lot in keeping the value and making for a quick sale

I'm sure this is a tool that can be improved in many ways, and it's not cheap. Yet, it doesn't exactly cost a fortune (£61, when a shop will ask you £15 every time you want the RD hanger checked) and is proved to last years.

As always, my position is not to "defend this or that manufacturer", but to stand by logic and facts given by daily use on multiple users and scenarios.
There will always be the one moaning that something is crap while a few thousand people are happy with the same product. We all have different needs, but some are unable to see beyond this and promptly judge "crap" anything they don't like or that are unable to use properly.

Re: Trains: Sunderland - Newcastle.

Tberes also many pubs and food places along up the coast road from above where the c2c finishes..the area called roker seafront and seaburn sea front ..about half a mile long and varied types of food
The city is a little bland now and is like a lot of town centres is run down and is in the process of redevelopment

On a side note
The last long climb to the top of waskerley is via the rd at crawleyside bank/stanhope or the very scenic off rd route of the rookhope incline ..this route will have commanding views when you have to stop to get your breathe back ( better than stopping on the steep rd )
Theres also the remains of the old engine house from days of pulling up the wagons .. it could be a little bumpy though for a Tourer

Re: Trains: Sunderland - Newcastle.

I'm a local and use this train with the bike regular
Theres a lift at Sunderland down to the platform for a laden bike
You cannot reserve a bike slot but you will get the bike in
They officially only carry 2 bikes but the guards usually turn blind eye to that and are very flexible
Not sure what site you use to book it
If not northern rail site

Theres no issues of late regarding the c2c track in the last few miles into Sunderland
LNER site will have the northern train listed as 0 changes ..any changes will be a metro ..the site also has a info icon which will also say metro or northern

Sine good ideas to recycle/reuse
I will definitely be double wrapping bar tape with old inners now that I am aware of it
Cardboard bike boxes are really good for floor covering whilst decorating
No more triping over dust sheets
They fold out really big
Thick enough to protect surfaces
Soak up any spillage
I mentioned this too a neighbour's who was decorating and he said it was ideal

Re: Apps/route planners for off road cycling?

Theres also the option of buying a used garmin edge GPS specific route mapping
There silly money new but I got one used off gumtree for around 40
After all theres no real moving parts in them so there ok used
I got one specifically for the SANDSTONE WAY 120mile off rd mtb trail
Worked fine for that and the route was downloaded from the sandstone way website so I had no plotting or anything to do ....I guess the newer versions will be more user friendly
A GPS app on tbe phone will drain the battery very fast

Cyclestreets
Is easy to use for us not so techno
Just touch the screen each place you want to pass and it will plot the route
It's not GPS in that it will tell you turn by turn ...but you can press location button and it shows where you are in the map
Be sure to select QIET journey in settings and it will put you on cycle trax where possible

Re: South Northumberland

If your on a mountain bike you can get from blyth
To backworth on the abandoned railway lines from the coal industry and farmtrax and touching litterly a couple hundred metres (if that) of qiet tarmac rd
The abandoned railways are unsurfaced and really just well compacted mud/ballast/gravel they will criss cross in an indirect route making a longer journey bit very safe and throw in a ride along holywell dean /beck just west of seaton sluice
If you follow the suggested route the " avenue" railway next to seaton Delavel hall will cross over the Dene at a junction
Even tbe short rd from the coast to the Avenue can be avoided by using trax and railways nearby

Remove said screw and inject the grease. Easy peazy.

I have Speedplay Frogs on my Moulton, and if the fancy takes me, I'll remove the Campag pedals on Mercian and fit Frogs instead.

Use the same things for squirting sealant into the valve core if out on the bike and " think" it may be dry ...also goes in the bag easier than a bottle of the stuff

These are the same 'grease guns' that I've been using on the Speedplay pedals. I have been asked in the chemist 'what do you want these for' when I tell them they usually stare at me blankly.
