Re: Guide des Voies Vertes et Véloroutes de France

Received the Guide - would not recommend it! As previous poster said, no info in it that doesn't appear on website as far as I can see. Most importantly there are no maps in it apart from the one of the whole of France that appears on the web, showing 'roughly' where the VVs are. Even a sketch map s...

Re: Axle slides in bottom bracket

Doh! when I said 'no discernible play' it was after tugging at the drive side crank. When I tugged at the left hand crank it nearly came off in my hand! Retightening the crank on the axle solved the problem. [slinks away shamefacedly]

Axle slides in bottom bracket

Doing some fettleing on my son's Kona Dr Dew. Replacing chain and cassette, but when holding cranks once chain removed, realised the axle is fee to slide in the BB. By about 5mm - a really noticeable slide! There is no 'play' in the BB at all, but I am flummoxed by the sideways movement. Is this bui...

Guide des Voies Vertes et Véloroutes de France

Has anyone bought one of these? The url is at http://www.af3v.org/Guide-des-VVV-de-France.html but there is no online purchase route - instead it seems to require a pdf being printed, completed, and returned with proof of bank transfer? Slightly confused, any help appreciated.

Re: pedals, tandem and perfect kissing

I was more intrigued by the indelicacy that prevents a woman from keeping her feet on the pedals whilst stationary. Does this also preclude her from freewheeling? If not, then is it real? As for the problem itself, we had exactly the same issues. Went the time honoured route from clips only [no stra...

But they're using the old Sea france ships? Must be a bit of room onboard, you'd have thought?

Re: Calais - Dover, book or not?

By way of update - I've now booked tickets for self and son, Calais- Dover for £19.50 each, £39.00 total. I had to make two bookings, as the online tool won't accept two adults + two bicycles - computer says no! Out of interest, I thought I'd see how much cheaper it would be as a foot passenger with...

Re: Calais - Dover, book or not?

Thanks all - having to book online whilst touring introduces an added layer of difficulty - on balance think I'll book now and have fixed entry and exit points! At least everything in between will be unplanned...

Re: Calais - Dover, book or not?

Hmm, so the £19.50 I can get at present could be £40 if I just turn up? Looks like spontaneity goes out the door...

Calais - Dover, book or not?

This June, I'm returning via Calais- Dover with bike. When doing this with motor vehicle I always book, but curious if I need to do so for just me and bike? Would be nice to have some flexibility if the price is the same...

pop up tent

A few years back I used a Decathlon pop up tent on the 7 day Trans Wales, and it was superb! After a hard day in saddle it was a joy to just take it out of bag, throw it in the air and crawl inside whilst others were still unrolling theirs. As it was a supported tour, and the luggage was being moved...

Re: pedestrian islands.

I hate these islands. I am effectively using my body as a piece of road furniture, forcing motorists to either slow up behind me or barge past/through me. Or accelerate past on the other side of the road, which really puts the frighteners on you! My usual route to town has a cycle lane, which motori...

Re: Weekend Campers in the Leicestershire area

Sounds like the sort of thing many members of the Leicester Forest Cycle Club would be interested in. [Including me as it happens - quite fancy the idea of a ride out, camp overnight [near a pub for preference] then ride back]. We're a friendly and mixed bunch, and have doubled our membership over t...

Re: Do I need therapy?

I like the 'you are a moron' ply. Gets hard though, and if you retaliate you have to be prepared for consequences. I slapped a passing car's roof [for perhaps the second time ever] the other day. Driver stopped ahead of me, ran from car, threatened to break my ##### nose if I ever touched his car ag...
