Yahoo mail problems
Dear All
I have just spent nearly an hour trying to write a short message on Yahoo email.
Every few seconds a new advert comes on the screen with bong sound. This stops me writing the email.
Apart from paying Yahoo £29.99 or changing to a different email provider, is there any way to stop this nonsense.
Regards Andy

Re: Spa Cycles (Harrogate)
What has happened to Spa's good service.
About a month ago I ordered about £100 of kit over the phone, after a week I rang them to ask where it was, will be sent today was the reply. We give priority to online orders. Order Cancelled.
Last week my neighbour ordered about £60 worth of parts from them online, still not arrived 8 days later.
What is going on with them, they are not the cheapest, could have got most of this stuff next day from Chain Reaction a lot cheaper!!!

Re: Stem Height in Relation to Saddle height
The Stronglight extenders referred to by 531Colin may be ok in theory but in use they have proved to be very dangerous as the alloy above the nut is not strong enough for long term use. I believe some folk came a bit of a cropper whilst using them, I have a mangled example somewhere to prove my point.

Re: Nervar Chainset
Thanks for your help on this.
I have looked further, it is probably a 1980's chain set, looks very much like a lot of others sold at that time.
The cranks have BSA stamped on the rear.

Nervar Chainset
I have been asked by a friend to sell a Nervar Chainset. It has 52 & 42 teeth rings.
It has 5 bolt holes and the BCD measures at 116mm, which seems to be a redundant size.
The chainset has not been used, so could do someone good service.
Does anyone know anything about them.
Many thanks

Re: Winstanleys Bikes of Wigan
Bought a Galaxy from them a couple of years ago, bike will need to be partly built up but quite easy. They forgot the separate rear rack but sent it a few days later after I contacted them. Would buy from them again, they seem like a decent company.

This may be of help, Claud Butler are under the same company as Dawes ie: The Tandem Group. They have some bikes with frames similar if not the same as the Mojave. Do you have a Claud Butler shop near you? I would however check the components of the Dawes against the Claud Butler as they may be better. I have also seen a Probike with the same frame as the Mojave. Also Raleigh use similar frames. Assuming you are after a low step through model.
My partner has had a Mojave for nearly a year and she enjoys riding it, nice bike.

Re: Stronglight Bottom Bracket (Update)
Hello All
Thought I would post the result of my other enquiries about the replacement bearings for the SBB. Spa Cycles have obtained the correct bearings from Stronglight.
I would however be interested in the result of other peoples enquiries, I am sure that there are other sealed bearings available at lower cost, which will do good service. Should I need to change them again I would use a lower cost solution.
I believe that better maintenace by me of what was an expensive cycle (Roberts) would have given a longer life. The bike has done less than 10000 mostly dry miles in 14 years.
I agree that a low cost solution is to use more modern sealed units and discard them when they wear out.
The Stronglight SBB seems to be a high quality unit and I believe to be worth maintaining.
After all cycling is supposed to be about sustainability.
Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Re: Stronglight Bottom Bracket
The SBB bottom bracket is the one shown on here with the blue on the threads, the centre piece is aluminium.
The cups fit over the bearing cartridges and are sealed with 'O' rings, against the centre piece.
When the cups are tightened into the BB shell the whole thing is held together to allow the bearings to operate.
The id of 17mm and the od of 30 mm are crucial to allow the bearing to operate.
BUT I do not think that the width is quite so crucial apart from having enough strength in the bearing for longevity.
I will try to put a photo on here later.
Many thanks

Stronglight Bottom Bracket
Hello All
Any ideas about obtaining the replaceable bearings on the Stronglight SBB bottom bracket. The bearings are marked 6500RS and are 17mm id 30mm od and 10mm wide. They appear to be a special and not easily obtainable.
I have contacted Spa Cycles and they are going to try to get some from Stronglight at considerable cost, and some delay.
It has been intimated to me that it is possible to fit 17mm id x 30mm od x 7mm wide, which are available from suppliers on t'web.
I know that I can use a UN54/55 which may be cheaper and easier or any other readily available modern item.
But I am nearly an old git, and we do things like this!!!
Many thanks Colin and Brucey in advance.

Re: Verfiy Vintage VISCOUNT
Sorry not true, Viscount made many models over many years, a lot of their output had lugged frames. It is just that the Aerospace models attract most of the attention. As stated it is difficult from the photo to see if the bike in question is a Viscount.

Re: Viscount bicycles!!
Hi there Viscount lovers.
There is a lot said about the Aerospace models on here, we do not hear much about the lower order bikes. I bought a red Viscount Super Sport in 1981, probably a bit heavy at 28 pounds and with low end Shimano hubs, gears and brakes with SR quill stem and Sakae chainset, the rims are Super Champion. It is sitting on my turbo trainer, still in reasonably good condition. One thing that stands out is how well the bike handles and how comfortable it is. The only problem I have had with it is the rear hub became very noisy, so a new hub was built into the existing rim and spokes. The original parts are still on the bike except the chain set, which now drives lower gears.
Just wondered if these are as well thought of as the Aerospace models.

Re: Oldest Women Cycle Touring
Lets take it to the next decade, we have plenty of ladies (and men) over 80 cycle touring and camping in East Sussex CTC, I guess it will soon be quite possible to find someone 90+ still out there doing what we all enjoy!! Trouble is they never look their age, proves that being out there keeping fit is good for you.
