I'm a size 13 too, bought myself a pair of Shimano MT41's from wiggle and they're good all rounders. I use cleats and they're easy enough to walk in (the cleats only just protrude), but they come covered up so apart from the stiffened sole you wouldn't really notice that they aren't trainers. They'r...

Unclear serial number

I've finally got round to registering my bike's frame numbers on Immobilise , but the serial number for my Focus hasn't been stamped on quite hard enough. I've got all but one digit. Is there any way of finding out what that last digit is? It could be either a 0 or 9 (only the top part of it is legi...

Re: Gear Changing

The other question I have - how do you effectively change gear. For example if I am approaching a hill with the chain on the centre cog front and the big cog rear, I can happily change down through the nine gears. When I get to the lowest gear set if need be I then have to change to an even lower g...

May I ask why South Brent, oh and welcome to the madhouse

You may, there's a reasonable explanation (i.e. I don't yearn to cross the south of England just to go to a one horse town!) I'm visiting some friends who live there.

Hi everyone, I'm Matt from Horsham in West Sussex. I've been cycling for ages but I've only recently started doing it seriously since I bought myself a Focus Variado Expert road bike. It's a bit of a step up from my aging Raleigh MTB! I'm building myself up to riding from Horsham to South Brent in D...

Personally I'm a fan of Hepworth's beers (you should try their Prospect if you like pale ales) , but as you say we're a bit spoilt for choice in Horsham - it's all good stuff. I miss the malty smell that wafted over the town center from the K&B brewery though :(

I've got the Blackburn Airstick on my road bike, which handles both Presta and Schrader valves and is pretty inexpensive. If you have a MTB the Mountain version is even cheaper.

You may have a bit of competition on the way down! ;) Just don't try to keep up with them!

I'm thinking of starting to cycle to work every so often once the weather gets a bit better (i.e. doesn't rain at some point every day), but it's 30 miles each way. Is this too much? Most people here seem to be commuting around 10 - 15 miles, so it seems like my plan is wildly optimistic... I'm in m...
