Re: More PC........Old Story Maybe, Could Be Contentious.

The PC gawn maaad types take the whole non-issue way too seriously in my view. However.... If we are going to look at replacing BC/AD then why not go with the Holocene calendar? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocene_calendar * Simple to understand * Universal to all of humanity * Easier to link eve...

Re: Is "cycle.travel" broken?

Agree with all of this. Mikef - care to give some examples of absurd or even impossible? The only place I wouldn't use cycletravel is in london, possibly other big cities. Its aversion to right turns can produce some odd results. On the whole, it's great. Here is an example of impossible. http://cy...

Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'

How Nigel become like he is? Either the whole thing is no more than shtick, or he is the product of a rather strange social environment. I mean, he admits to singing anti-German, WWII related football chants at his German then wife. Is it too late to send him off for a bit of National Service? For ...

I guess its not that bad when no one takes Nail a Jewish Hippy To A Cross Day seriously... Nice that its the waning moon after the equinox though. Feels more springy. It's a pity we can't be as flippant about other religions. I'm exactly as flippant about other religions. I choose not to give my op...

Re: Osmand free and paid

Does this work with the free version of OsmAnd or just the paid?? Good question! I'm using the paid for version, but in theory it shouldn't matter as long as the file has actually been downloaded to your device. The "Open With" dialogue that I referenced is an Android system menu, so shou...

Re: Osmand free and paid

I am just above landsurfer in my knowledge of this mapping system in that i know what it is. But i am blowed if i know how to use it. Gpx files transfers really does does seem difficult to me. The file transfer isn't that difficult but you do have to use the file manager to move the GPX file from ...

Re: Osmand free and paid

I didn't know that OsmAnd had an iPhone version. It was certainly an Android app first and foremost so the devs may be working out the bugs from adapting it to the iOS platform.

FWIW It's been rock solid for me on multiple Android handsets for years.

Re: Calais Marseille Bordeaux on canals tow paths...

Surfaces mostly bike friendly with effectively some roots on the Canal du Midi but I never was bothered, even with the two wheeled trailer, if you have roots you have trees and shade... This is no longer an accurate assumption for large stretches of the CdM due to the tree culling that nirakaro men...

Re: GPS time?

If you want to add the latlong co-ordinates and you don't mind using the command line then I've found exiftool to be really powerful and well behaved towards the photo's existing exif data. There is a description of how to use it for geotagging here: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/geot...

Re: GPS time?

I discovered this exact problem recently when using Darktable to add GPS positions to some of my pictures from Switzerland. I *think* that the GPS clocks are set to GMT, then converted to UTC in the receiver, although they're pretty much interchangeable (give or take a handful of leap seconds). I've...

Re: Star Wars DVD for the kids

The closest (modern) thing to the original 1970s version is the unofficial Despecialized [sic] Edition.

AFAIK the closest official DVD version is the one in Gaz's post.

Easy enough to photoshop that sort of stuff. no was a real mag/paper cant remember which at moment I look at many online news Well if you can't remember you're being remarkably obtuse: FYI "news.co.uk" is the website of the parent company of Murdoch's rags (times, sun, etc.). So why not s...

Re: Stronger mod action against trolling

I do find some posts rather irritating in that they supposedly (and repeatedly) raise "fact" with pitiful supporting information (e.g. a link to some alt-right blog ...). But then am I being irritated by the lack of credible supporting information, irritated by the opinions or irritated b...

Re: Stronger mod action against trolling

The poll asks "Is it trolling to say without proof that a group holds certain dislikeable views?" and I've responded accordingly (no, it's just voicing ones opinion). There is one shockingly obvious troll currently active on this forum who conforms to the dictionary definition. Most other ...

Re: maps for expedition touring

Question for boris and any others on OSMand - i know that you can view the maps offline but will the routing engine work offline? I know there areca few offline packages where you need to go online to generate a route. I've just tested it out with my phone in aeroplane mode to be sure - yes it does...
