The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is currently carrying out consultation to improve the A650 road between Shipley and Bradford to a) build a two-way segregated cycling route and b) reduce the road speed from 30mph to 20mph.
This is the same authority responsible for the Leeds-Bradford cycle superhighway amongst other cycling schemes.
Knowing what happened before, there is likely to be firm opposition from the motoring lobby and local residents.
Could I ask you to take about 3 mins of your time to complete the survey below, which would add weight to more sustainable transport. I don't believe there is a requirement to be a local resident.
Visit the link below and the survey can be found under 'Have your say'.

Many thanks.

Re: Advice on Helmets prices vs quality ????
If buying a helmet try for size and worth buying a size bigger so that you can wear a hat under it in cold weather.
Helmets have to meet a minimum safety standard, so any price differential above this takes into account weight reduction and heat venting.
Also, most helmets have a shelf life as the polystyrene foam is said to weaken with time. So, you might not want to buy a expensive helmet to replace in 3 or 4 years.

Re: Upgrade from giant defy 2
What do you want from a bike that a Defy doesn't give?
I think I would have to improve by several tiers before I'm a better rider than my 10 year old Defy.
If it's pure bling, you could go for s Titanium frame.

Re: Bent rim. Write off or repairable?
I presume the Hunt offer is the same rim so it will be easy to transpose to existing spokes.
Sounds reasonable if you're handy with a spoke key, but factor in labour charges if asking a bike shop to do it.

Re: Disc brakes pads left and right
I would have thought it's as if you're sat on the bike riding.
You'll know when you install them as they won't fit right.
Shimano (usually) are identical pads both sides so makes no difference.

Re: Compact double to triple conversion
I've been thinking of doing the same. Looking for guidance on possible issues.
I've got a 50-34 compact crankset on 9 speed Tiagra. I recall the Tiagra STI (c. 2010) was interchangable with double/triple and the shop I bought from said the same thing.
The front derailleur shifter shows three markings reinforcing this. Assuming I buy two compatible inner rings to replace the 34t, am I right in thinking that I simply adjust the high/low screws of the FD?
It's a Hollowtech BB and they all come in a standard size (I think), so won't need to change this?

Re: How to tell the width of a chain without a tool to measure it?
If it's a child's bike it's unlikely they will have done the miles or put the type of torque to wear a single speed chain. We're talking several thousand miles typically.
I think you will be fine with adding tension to the chain via the dropouts.

You don't need anything special. A bit of chain oil worked into the moving parts will help quieten, but not totally eliminate noise.

Re: The tools you never needed until you got then use a lot thread!!
I had to buy a rivet gun for a car job. It ended up being used extensively for other DIY jobs.
One of these was to add corrugated plastic sheet to the outside base of my Carradice panniers to protect the cotton duck when the bags were put on the floor.

Re: Mudguards for dry protection?
Full mudguards with a flap, as well as protecting from water, are great on dry hardpack surfaces where the front wheel throws up dust, fine gravel or sand into the drivetrain.
Another benefit is during the depths of winter. The front wheel creates a lot of airflow when travelling faster. This can lead to freezing toes. Full mudguards can block a lot of this cold air.

I pick up washers, screws, bolts lying on the road, need to sort them sometime, should be plenty of useful ones
Got four pumps. At least
Glad I'm not the only one. Some of these bits have come in handy around the house with DIY and repairs. It's amazing how many workmen drop cable ties too.

Re: I've just found these while rummaging in the back of the garage:
Found a long lost barrel adjuster for some Shimano shifters whilst tidying up the garage during lockdown.
I recall it being propelled off the shifter via its spring about 5 years ago during maintenance. It went into a dark corner of the garage that was not easily accessible. Thankfully, I had a spare adjuster off another shifter to keep me going.

Re: How was Cycling 2019 for you?
Was very happy with the first 9 months of the year. Plenty commuting, a week's tour in May (France) and and a week in July (Ireland). A couple of century rides too.
Then got a chest infection in early October and it's only gone fully in the last week or so. Did 30 miles on Christmas day and it felt good, but fitness seems have gone down. Hopefully, it'll return soon.
