Re: <£400 bike
If I'm leaving my bike outside a shop for any length of time I use a D lock through frame & back wheel to a permanent structure and a cable lock through front wheel & frame. May seem extreme to some but it's worked for me so far, hope I'm not tempting fate.

Re: Want to sell my car in order to cycle
I have been carless now for 11 years and walk, cycle and use public transport if needed. Every now and again I have used a friends car, I am on the insurance policy, to travel to remote areas. I have found the experience to be unpleasant because of the amount of traffic and the impatience of some drivers. Public transport around my county, Notts and into Derbyshire is very good so I'm lucky. Look at the alternatives around your area and then make your decision.

I heard of it many years ago and have hunted for it, but never seen it on a supermarket shelf. Ordering it online and paying the postage feels too much of a faff for the little I'd use,
Saw it today in Asda £3:50, always stocked there.

Thanks

As cyclist & backpacker I have used Nido for many years because I think it's the best dried milk available.
I measure the amount I need and carry in a ziplock bag, it's lightweight, mixes well and keeps well. Another ziplock containing coffee and you're ready to go.

I don't use it regularly - I put it there as a back-up to my rack-mounted rear dynamo lamp. Also, I sometimes use it when luggage is obscuring the dynamo lamp. I'm not sure that the bracket would last long with a light permanently mounted - I would worry about the mudguard stressing and splitting.

Hey, that's a really smart mount - can I ask what thickness alloy you used?
Thanks![]()
It's a steel flat "L" bracket with two holes on each "leg", about 1.7~2mm thick (I haven't anything to measure it accurately with). As far as I can remember, it came in a pack of assorted brackets/braces from Aldibracketc.jpg
Wilco sell them individually

It doesn't taste of much by itself... but there again nor does rice, or dried pasta, or oats, or polenta, or lentils etc. but if you add a little stock herbs/spices etc. then problem solved.
I particularly like the way you don't have to keep water boiling for 10 minutes so you save quite a bit of fuel compared to rice/pasta, and you get to eat it sooner too.
Pete.
Agree with everything you say, I was going to post all of the same.

I can't find anything for Nido Full Fat... should that be Full Cream?
https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/taste-of-the-world/nido-instant-full-cream-milk-powder-400g-7923918-p
also contains soy lecithin.

I thought it was skimmed milk which was dried and powdered somehow. I've used it loads of times on hiking trips and it was ok enough, but it was the skimmed bit I never liked. Couldn't find full fat dried milk though. Ironic since it's all I have now since having some chest pains back in March!

Nido full fat from Asda and some Asian shops are my goto places.

andrew_s wrote:whoof wrote:to me powdered milk is like white water
The thing with powdered milk is that it's almost all skimmed milk, which will be why it doesn't taste as bad as UHT or proper milk that's been festering in the flask all morning.
Full fat powder is available (Nido), but it's surprising how much of it you need, and there's also the problem of getting it to mix in properly, without getting lumps that are gooey on the outside and still powder on the inside.
With Nido I find that if you mix it with a little cold water before you make your brew it's fine.

They should (or plus padding) fit in a bottle cage and aren't expensive. See this 3 quid one from Wilkos https://www.wilko.com/wilko-500ml-stain ... lsrc=aw.ds
Surely the easiest solution.
I have a similar Thermos flask. To stop it getting scratched and to get a better fit in the bottle cage I put the flask in an old sock. I can’t abide drinking a cold drink on a cold day. I’m toying with getting a Deboyo bottle flask so that I can have hot Ribena on a ride.
Hot Vimto for winter drink.
