I beg to disagree, as a born and bred Nottingham lad, they were always known as twitchels.

Hardly: I beg to disagree even more as someone who was originally from Nottinghamshire, and had friends in Nottingham itself, it was always Jitty or Gitty (sic).

I’ve never even heard of twitchels in a Nottinghamshire context.

While twitchel may have been used in a dark, dank, corner of Nottingham that I’m unaware of, as per the example, it certainly wasn’t a universal usage in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire.

Still, thanks for your example as, again, I’ve never heard of it.

I’ve even asked my family (who have lived in Nottinghamshire all of their lives and some worked in Nottingham for 50 years, and they have never heard of the phrase either.

I've lived in Nottingham for over 70yrs and assure you that the term twitchell was used, as was jitty & alley.

I'm from Nottingham and it was a twitchell and also jitty and alley. Different districts had varying names.

Can somebody assist my search for riding tops, just good enough to take the wind chill away, but light enough to tuck away in a saddle bag.
It needs to used when autumn chills arrive.(Not riding a road bike but a touring bike (retired)

Cheers Tom

Rab & Montane do great windshirts and are very lightweight, pack very small, both around £50

Cheers,

If you're on a budget and it's not going to get a lot of use after this trip I would have a look at the Vango range.

My next camping trip will involve either a tarp or bivvy and possibly a small trowel.

That's the way to do it

Re: How do you know a bike is NOT STOLEN ???

Ehi wrote:Hi guys
I am new to cycling. I only cycled as a kid and recently with borrowed hybrids from friends

I now want to buy my own bike and been advised to go the route of Hybrids, from my recent posts on here and chat with friends.

I have been looking at bikes online and also looking at facebook marketplace , ebay and gumtree and there seems to be some nice offers from time to time.

Questions : How do I know for sure I am NOT buying a stolen bike ? I bought one for my daughter, from a respectable looking couple (late 40s or mid 50s) I am now trying to get one for myself

Kindly advice
E

Don't know how many people use it but mine is registered with Bike Register, so if I was to sell it I could prove ownership online with Frame No. & photos. It's free and linked with the police data base.

whoof wrote:As above people may drive to a campsite and might do a bit of cycling whilst there.
If you told the majority of the population that they needed to cycle to a campsite carrying their tent, sleeping/cooking gear and clothes I think they would rather spend their time in lockdown at home.

Only being allowed to cycle/walk to a site really appeals to me, I've done it for many years.

I agree with these locations, done coastal and inland and really enjoyed the scenery and the flattish roads. Brilliant campsite at Baconsthorpe near Holt in Norfolk.
