The ferry at Alcoutin carries bikes, met an American woman at a hotel. She used it last week, 2 small ferries every 1/.2,h.
We were going to use it as Alcoutin was all booked out , and stay on the Spanish side.
Found a good place 10 kms down the river, done food in the evening and had a good b/fast.
As it was the start of the Easter holidays though that the ferry would stop after lunch but was still running at 5pm. This was 4 days ago.

Re: Passport woes in the news again
Did the people who voted us out of the EU read up about the pros and cons, I think not.
Let them find out the hard way.

Re: forums
Remember the Randonneur rates for camping in France?
Some of the big campsite chains( Yellow is one ) have that deal ,same pitch as big tent and car .
That helped the camp bar as most would eat on site.
Up in the Massif west of Lyon it was targeted at cyclists /hiker's , price was for the bike or rucksack.. Not tent and persons. We had a few that counted the tandem as one , not for the 2, cyclists.
Times have changed and the little municipal camping's are dying out.

Re: touring wheels upgrade
I think that touring wheels cover everything from credit card, to the back of beyond loaded up.
Some of us are smooth roads and other prefer a mix of every surface. We will never agree on what's correct

Re: touring wheels upgrade
Most people buy a tourer for going from A to B to C etc. not day runs.
Why buy a full on tourer if it's not used for the job its been designed for?
For us a touring bike with no luggage just does not feel right.
Touring wheels have a hard life, I prefer something that's capable of taking knocks. Lightweight is way down the list of what's needed.

Re: issue with new inner ring on ultegra hollowtech
I had the same problem on a 2014 XT chainset, new big ring and changing to the inner it fell between the rings. The profile was different, a standard chainring had a bigger gap between the rings. Find the code on the old chainring and buy the same one.

Re: Aventura gps devices
Phoned may be better today , used to do a winter tour in Andalusia over Xmass and new year holidays.
We all used to use Strava 's check elevation button,as it made the climbing looks better.
Back then most Spanish cyclists were using the phone for Strava.
Your metres climbing always increased by Hundreds of metres as Strava done an average of all the rides climbing.
They reckoned that the phone had a tendancy to drift all over the place, a few yards each way and elevation went crazy up in the Sierra Navada roads.

Re: Aventura gps devices
I see that the speed is zero, has the phone been sitting for a while and obtained an accurate position . Phone looses out when its asked to route find all day long. Phone is ok if it's only for 1/2 a day , more than that you will need a power pack.

Re: Garmin connect beta
Did not like this , tried a coypf times to upload GPS track. Worked at 3rd attempt, might be because of tracks or routes through fields .

Re: Garmin connect beta
Easier to send courses made up on the fly via email, one clic and it's uploaded to other Half's unit. Will see how good it is at routing off road , as locked gates are a problem.

Re: Best online or app map for non-road routes?
Komoot has issues, touring in Portugal. We are trying to get a fair bit of our cycling on dirt tracks. Komoot does not know if tracks are on locked up private tracks. Its been trying to send us through locked gates etc. Now we are looking at the Veloviewer heatmap to check, if it's on a GR all is well.

Re: Best tyres for touring
On 26 wheels its been Marathon XR tyres 26×1.95 . Still have a few left, were for the tandem and MTB. Moved over to Vittoria Mezcal 29×2.25 roll well and have had 6000 +Kms out of a back tyre. Run tubeless and no issues, all types of surfaces , loose sand on tracks is the only negative.
