To all who are trying to help me solve a problem,
105 front mech chainstay angle parameters 60-63 degrees, my longstaff custom built bike 76 degress will it still work properly?, if not I have heard of dummy tube (mountain bikes). also is there any difference between 105 brazed on type and band type diamentions? lastley is there and E Mail to contact Shimano I cant find find one?
Thank you all
Tom

Dear all,
I may have a possative feed back from my local bike shop, due to my bike being custom built the chainstay angle is 76 degrees also the 105 front changer was fitted to the seat tube with a brazed on fitting, we have tried an ordinary clamp type tiagra and it seems to have improved the changing.
Just before I put this one to bed anybody out there tried to follow the instructions on how to trim the sti flight deck levers supplied on the Shimano web site para 5 all seems well until it shows the chain position at point of setting up trim, large chain wheel discussing overrun to small chainwheel?
Until we meet again
Thanks for all the help

Thank you all for your comments, I think due to my lack of tech knowlege I have confused people,
The bike is only twelve months old the componants are as follows.
Chainset T A Specialeties Zepher Tripple
Chainrings 48-110-9/10, 38-110-9/10 Zeleto-26-74-9/10.
Front changer Shimano 105.
As I mentioned have no trouble going up the rings and down from top to middle then down to inner but if I set up the inner guid plate to be as close as possible to the inner chaiset the chain is not allowed to reach the inner chainwheel, I have to wind back the low setting screw, then it will drop onto the chairing.
Is the 105 guide plate capacity of 20 teeth (inner to outer ) to great. T A 22 teeth.
If so is there one on the market that may improve things?
Also I have noticed that the height adjustement of the guide plate is at least 5mm above outer ring to get it to work.
Is it a matter due to the set up being mixed make and models I have to compromise Shimano TA? Is it me not understanding things?
May I lastly ask some basic questions of the forum, I am using for the first time 105 STI triple Flight Deck levers, as I go up the chainset the trimming and the change is a lot quieter and fluid, coming down the trimming and change is harsher as if the spring return is to strong
Is this normal?
Chris I have been here before I have been back to the bike shop that built my bike three times and due to the builder not being local and my bike being out of warranty I have handed it to my LBS for assesement
This was to be my treat for my retirement years, not at the moment
(I bet some of you good people know who built it already?)
Regards Tom

Thank you Mick,
You are dead right regards the T A chainset, thank you for explaining how things work, the only thing causing me trouble now is as I mentioned when the inner plate low setting screw is as per all instructions I have come across ,ie as close to the lower chainwheel as possible to stop chain coming off bottom bracket side, the chain will not drop onto small chainwheel,
you have to wind it back quite a way till it does and risk chain coming off.
Sorry to be a little vague have I explained things ok.

I agree mick but as I mentioned one of my bikes is fitted with T A chainset from new and will not work within the agreed parameters, therefore I have no choice. When I mentioned this to the company that built the bike I was told that if the 105 chainset was used in congunction with the 105 rear mech and front mech I would not achieve the touring gears required therefore T A were used? compromise?.
Also when setting up H/ Low setting on the 105 cage if I set the low setting to the correct parameters 0.5 to 1mm on inside guide plate, chain will not drop onto small chain ring, welcome advice.

Front mechs
Due to the early dark nights I have vertured to do some servicing on my bikes and would ask why on most all the articals I have read regards set up of front mechs that the adjustement of the large chainwheel to front mech hight adj is no more than 1- 3 mm but both of mine frome new are at least 5 mm. One bike has Shimano 105 rear mech and 105 front mech T A tripple front, the other has Shimano LX M571 rear and LX front Mech Vision triple chainset.
To be truthfull the 5 mm seems to work out better?

Chain coming off
Thanks Pete for your promt reply,
I think that these days chainwheels come as a set as mine should have been, although the chainset is T A the rest of the transmission is Shimano 105 and therefore when setting up the high / low settings to allow the chain to drop to the small ring the gap on the rear of the mech is to great check this out smallest front chainwheel largest rear gear and I bet you have the same ptoblem.

Chain comes off chainwheel
Update to my last comments, got onto shop that built my bike and they have stated that there is occasions that the chain may come off the front granny gear due to the ratios that you selected when purchasing the bike indeed mine does sometimes, my comment back I don't know how old you are but you don't bounce as well as you did when you were younger,
(I have receintly come off going up hill, chain came off, feet in cleets ,two seconds of sheer panic).
To be serious The symptom when trying to adjust the correct inner limit(small chainwheel) to large gear to just miss inner part of mech ,the chain will not drop cleanly onto the lower chainwheel, when operating smi gear changer, You have to wind it back to allow chain to drop, this leaves too much rear space at rear of mech hence the chain comes off.
If I manually set up correctly and operate the cable by hand all seems ok
Welcome any comments

Chain coming off front chainwheel
Approx six months ago I had problems with my new custom built bike front chain wheel running on top of the middle chainwheel.I recieved a lot of good advice from the forum, which resulted in my bike going back and the fault rectified.
I have been out on my bike over the last weeks ( prior to this, recovery from Hernia) and all was well until when changing to largest chain wheel and smallest on the odd occasion the chain has come off.
On these occasions when this has occured I was changing chain wheels quit quickly.
When cycling along I again ran through the chain wheels and could not get the chain to come off, all max/ min settings on tripple chainwheel seem correct , could it be chain whip dropping the chain off? componants Shimano 105 changer and ten rear block T A crank and tripple chain wheels. Shimano STI changers.
I have a Thorn Sherpa also nine block tripple chain wheel and this has never happened?
Regards
