Hi all,
Looking for some advice please. I currently have a Whyte Shoreditch hybrid bike and this has been great since I started cycling in the initial lockdown. I'm now finding I'm a bit slow when compared to my friends on their road bikes. I tend to go for 30-50km rides but plan to to do a 160km event next month so I feel a road bike now would be better. I won't be racing and this isn't my aim. I'm thinking of getting a road bike now, second hand, budget around £200-300.
A family friend recommended getting a Canondale Synapse, ideally with Shimano 105. Not sure if the 105 is within budget. Can you advise on any brands and models I should get? Is Canondale the best or any others?
What should I look for when buying second hand other than overall condition?
Many thanks in advance!

Haha! I may go a bit faster once I get more confident!
Any suggestions on the best tyre I should go for, to use just at the bike park?

I'm wasting no more time.
Yes I had an old mountain bike before buying the hybrid. The post about the mountain bike is 2 months old! The mountain bike is now broken and needs a new axle, a LBS wrote it off as they advised it wasn't worth repairing. So my current post holds true - do I buy a new mountain bike or not. Not sure what you are trying to imply?! But please don't waste your time

Re: Would my hybrid bike be suitable on these tracks?
Other than increasing the chance of punctures if I leave as it is, and I assume wearing the tyres down quicker, are there any other risks to the bike?

Re: Would my hybrid bike be suitable on these tracks?
Kids are 6-10 years old. I don't need to ride slowly with them as they are comfortable on their bikes. I will probably ride at 10-12km/h

Would my hybrid bike be suitable on these tracks?
I've recently purchased a Whyte Shoreditch hybrid bike: https://whyte.bike/products/shoreditch
I'm really enjoying cycling on the road and commuting. I plan to go to this bike park with my kids but don't want to damage my new hybrid bike. We would only go there in nice dry weather.
Probably will go there once a month, maybe twice a month at times.
The current tyres are Vittoria Zaffiro Pro 700 x 32c, Puncture Protection
So not sure if I should:
1. Get a £100-150 second hand mountain bike
2. Change my tyres to 38c gravel tyres, eg. Schwalbe G-One Allround RaceGuard Folding Road Tyre
3. Stick with my current bike and tyres as it could be fine?
Cheers

Re: Which of these Hybrids should I choose?
Thanks for the replies. Yes I agree having a sticky for newcomers would help, especially with the terminology and what to look for.
I don't really need mudguards as not needed them in the past and won't be riding when its been raining etc.
I'm leaning towards the Whyte Shoreditch as is available soon and Whytes have a good reputation.
Cheers

Which of these Hybrids should I choose?
Hi,
I currently have a 8yr old cheap Apollo mountain bike which is quiet heavy. I'm looking at getting a new hybrid bike for road cycling 20-30km on weekends and also need something when causally going on trails and in the woods with the kids. The bike will not be used in winter or when raining. Budget around £400-700. Looking for flat bars and without suspension. Also something which is low maintenance and reliable as I'm not much of a DIY'er!
I've narrowed (sort of) down to the following:
TREK FX2 DISC
£460

TREK FX3 DISC
£700

BOARDMAN HYB 8.6
£550

GIANT ESCAPE 2 DISC
£475

GIANT ESCAPE 2 CITY DISC - wasn't really looking at the City but a local shop can get one in stock in 5-6 weeks
£525

GIANT ESCAPE 1 DISC
£649

WHYTE WHITECHAPEL
£599

WHYTE SHOREDITCH - can get hold of one locally in 3 weeks
£699

What would you recommend? I appreciate many bikes are not in stock currently but I can wait for the right bike and price if needed.
Many thanks!

Re: Which type of brakes should I go for?
Thanks for the replies. Yes over winter I won't use the bike, so it will be sat in the garage for at least 4 months each year.

Which type of brakes should I go for?
Hi, first post so be nice!
I currently have a 8yr old cheap Apollo mountain bike which is quiet heavy. I'm looking at getting a new hybrid bike for road cycling 20-30km on weekends and also need something when causally going on trails and in the woods with the kids. Budget around £400-600. So far looking at bikes such as the Trek FX1, Trek FX2 Disc, Boardman HYB 8.6, Giant Escape 1/2 Disc.
My question is what kind of brakes should I be looking for? Rim brakes? Mechanical discs? Hydraulic discs?
A friend who is a keen cycler has advised me to avoid discs at this price point as they won't be good quality / reliable. I am not one to be able to do self maintenance so would end up going to a local bike store for maintenance and repairs so keen on something which is reliable and low maintenance.
Many thanks!
