Re: Rust free/resistant chains

Don't think there is any easy solutions, you need to get the salt off and the chain dried. If I have had a long ride on wet salty roads I take the chain off and rinse it n the sink before drying and re-oiling takes less than 15 minutes. I don't think many people realise that hot air / paint stripper...

meanwhile from another measure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) UK is 5th largest economy. In monetary terms - i.e. $$$. (Which is important from a trading perspective). In median wealth terms per capita we're somewhat further and if you measure wealth in terms of th...

Re: How oh how do you get a lockring off?

My torque wrench clicks when the set torque is reached. When I've tried to use it on a lockring, the click from the wrench is masked by the clicks from the lockring. I just do mine tight. Never had an issue in use, and they all come undone without issue either. The very idea of putting 36ftlb...

Re: How oh how do you get a lockring off?

I made my own so as I could tackle the most stubborn Notice how it holds the lockring socket in place as well as keeping good alignment between whip and cassette. Here it is in action releasing a stupidly over tightened one. Superb! :D I wonder if some people are putting lockrings on a bit too tigh...

Re: How oh how do you get a lockring off?

I made my own so as I could tackle the most stubborn... nice, but does it not tend to twist under the highest loads? Also doesn't there have to be a large lateral reaction load on the QR skewer ? cheers Does not appear to be any twisting, just feels very secure and unlikely to slip. By lateral load...

Looks like our "frictionless trade" is paying dividends. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/jan/21/britons-buying-from-eu-websites-face-more-than-100-import-duties . Hardly an unbiased source ... sadly for the next decade or more any UK business that falls on hard times or goes to ...

Re: Which rust inhibitors are people using?

So, am expecting to use the Dinitrol if the tin will still work but open to suggestions. Thanks Sounds good - I used the Lidl product which seems similar to Din, Waxoyl etc. I recently punctured a non-working aerosol whilst holding it in the vice and using a piece of wood with a nail in the end fro...

Re: When is remoaning not remoaning?!

feel free to derail the thread with cycling - surely no one will complain if we started to discuss cycling. It does impact cycling. UK companies no longer able to ship to EU (thus reducing their market e.g. SJS), problems getting gear from EU companies (I'm after specialist cycle bags only availabl...

Re: Tier 4 exercise limits

In general though cyclists are not exercising vigorously, or at least I seldom do, may be near the top of a steep hill ? And in 40 mile yesterday I don't think I seen another cyclist or pedestrian. Joggers do worry me though, when I pass I close one eye an hold my breath for as long as possible. I d...

Re: When is remoaning not remoaning?!

I don't think the average supporter of brexit expected it to be all roses from day one, some sectors were always going to take a hit. I think we have to give it at least five years (and may be 5 years after the pandemic is over) before we will see what the outcome is. I'm not hopeful though with the...

Re: Dangerous front lights

But the point here is that by having two front lights so close together that they are almost touching, we can make it look to oncoming traffic almost like one single light source, removing any possibility of misinterpretation. That is so easy to do, why would anyone not do it? My two front lights h...

Re: Is Trump Mad?

Credit where credit is due, so far we seem to be leading the world (as a sizeable nation) in rolling the vaccine out. They have to get something right once in a while! Plenty of time to cock it up yet and they probably will, but so far so good. We're the only country doing single doses, of course, ...
