i use tracklogs which is similar and it's great for ride planning.
no one has mentioned yet that you can't actually load memory map into your sat nav/ gps.though you can put it in pda's.you can only,in the case of garmin, use their own mapping in the unit.

as above but i would try adjusting the right cleat .your feet should feel completely natural with no twisting or awkward feeling when you're pedaling

thanks si. i'd already used a google link to that page but for some reason it had taken me half way down the page missing all the info about the cable angles .
i think i may have it sorted now as regards getting better performance from the brakes.

canti brake setup advice

my son has just bought a second hand bob jackson, possibly a 531 version of the world tour.i've upgraded it to nine speed.
the brakes are cantis, not my favourite brake , but they haven't seen much use.
they have the straddle wire which i think looks a mess. after looking on the net i've found the much neater link cable. unfortunately for me it comes in several lengths.
can anyone advise on which is the best length?
i measured the stradle wire from the end to the centre of the "straddle " yoke/hanger thing but have got different lengths front and back -told you i didn't like them :D .
any advice on the best length and set up would be much appreciated.
we can't use mini v's because of clearance , full v's with travel agent would foul the pannier rack, and i'm not prepared to drill out a good frame to leave bare canti mounts to use dual pivots!
thanks

i use a vista c . it's got garmin city select loaded in as a base map for the roads as well as the free contour maps from the smc site. not quite os but good enough to give an idea of the terrain.
i plan rides on tracklogs digital mapping.

It's strange that when returning to multi-gears from either my fixie or SS, I find that despite having 24 or 27 to choose from I can never find a comfortable one, yet on the Fixie or SS it mostly always feels like the right one apart from on steep hills or strong winds.

i agree.
i went out on gears to our clubs freewheel contest at the weekend and it was pretty awful riding. it was a hilly ride out and i just couldn't settle.i've done almost all of my last 10,000 miles on fixed and find it much easier, so i supose i'm prbably used to it and set in my ways..
my son recently started riding and has built up to a 100 mile ride.we had got to the bottom of the climb out of dentdale at about the 60 mile point and he said that it was the first time he'd changed gear all day, though he does tend to spin. all that on a 27 gear bike.
getting clipped in . i started on clipless and haven't had a problem, i wouldn't like to go back to the days of chasing the pedal round to tighten the toe strap.

i think it's a non starter.i wouldn't let anyone near any of our bikes, they're well maintained and constantly checked.it wouldn't go down too well having some "word corrected to Halfords" trained cowboy getting his hands on my bike ,trying to find fault.
cyclists look pretty much alike so anyone banned would be hard to find and bikes are a lot cheaper than cars. a confiscated bike may only be worth a hundred or so and pretty easily replaced.red light jumpers deserve all they get and are best dealt with by motorists, they're well equipped for knocking them off!
