Re: Headache after rides

I will drink 500ml every 20 or so miles unless it's really hot ie 27-30+ degrees. Then I can double it.I take one 500ml bottle with a Electrolite tablet and one just water. I usually drink a couple of glasses before a ride and if I remember I'll have a milkshake when I get home.I used to use SIS Reco...

Re: Cats: Why? Why not?

Cats are horrible, smug, self centered creatures. Not for me.
My in-laws have two which is a good enough reason for me not to go there

Re: heat, haircut & hat - warning!

I went out yesterday after freshly shaving my head the night before.I decided as it was 30 degrees I'd not wear my cap so lathered my bonce in sunscreen factor 50. Big mistake....every single climb resulted in eyes full of sweat and sunscreen :x Is they anything worse than sunscreen in your eyes whe...

Re: Public Footpaths - cycling?

You can apply your statement to FPs too, especially the ones in "must do" areas like the Three Peaks in Yorkshire Dales (Ingleborough, Whernside, Pen-y-Ghent) which see huge amounts of solely foot traffic and as a result are constantly being rebuilt at vast expense by a combination of lan...

Re: Recommend me some disc brakes

I've had disc brakes on MTBs for 20 years and despite abuse non have ever "fell to pieces".There are some that have gained a poor reputation for reliability. How much do you want to spend? New or second hand? Purpose ie just to work or for serious trail riding/Downhilling etc? Why Hydrauli...

Re: Car speedometer accuracy.

Whilst you clearly get satisfaction from, to use the phrase, sticking it to the man, wouldn't it be easier to modify your driving habits? Let's be clear here.I have a clean licence and have done for the last 20 years. My last points were cleared in 1999! I drive 12-15000 miles per year and I also ha...

Re: Car speedometer accuracy.

... I contest it every time and I get offered a SAC every time. I'm intrigued by this. Just so I'm clear about it, did you receive a fixed penalty notice replaced with the offer of a course when you elected to go to court? What was the basis of your "contest?" In other words, the police b...

Re: Car speedometer accuracy.

... It came up as the discussion got quite heated.Basically people on the course were opposing what was being said(you can't do this).I have been told different things on different courses though.I've found that they are quite inconsistent if you get the instructors talking "off script"! ...

Re: Public Footpaths - cycling?

I've been riding my mountain bike round here over the fields for the past 10 years, bridleways, footpaths and nobody's ever said anything to me about using my bike! Another bee in mick F's bonnet by the sounds of it!!   When the CRoW act 2000 was in discussion in the 1990s the main ...

Re: Car speedometer accuracy.

It's interesting that on speed awareness courses people should be told that speedometers generally over-record speed. I should have thought that it's an area where a bit of blissful ignorance would keep them on the strait and narrow. Is it because people bleating that they were only 1 mph over the ...

Re: Car speedometer accuracy.

I was told on SAC that all modern cars read higher by design. So at an indicated 30mph in the car you'll actually be doing 27-28mph.I don't have/use a satnav so can't compare my Pick-up but generally when passing roadside indicators it's 2-3mph above what the board says.

Re: Disc brake bike build

Presumably Ultegra groupset means ultegra (or GRX) STIs and only matching calipers will work with them. Hope RX4 calipers work with Shimano STis.In fact they work better than Shimano calipers... I'd class RX4s as 'matching calipers' by design, in that the pistons are sized so that they work with th...

Re: wot's going on here, then??

I find the comments here a little strange. If that were 50+ riders on Moto-X bikes I reckon 100% of comments would be along the lines of "idiots, dangerous, illegal etc, etc".IIRC dozens were prosecuted for a NYE ride-out a couple of years ago? Just because they're on push bikes it's OK?No do...
