Changing sprockets sturmey archer
I'm sure it's been asked before and i did search first . Anyway if i change rear sprocket from 18t to 21 t do i need a longer chain or will slots in frame give enough adjustment

cheers loads on ebay that say they are working but don't want to go to expense of getting a wheel built and then find they are duff . Local bbike bloke has new 36 hole ones but no 40 hole which is what i need

I think finding 26 1 1/4 alloy or even new steel rims would be seriously expensive and difficult . I have a modern bike if i want to go any great distance

Well foil and vinegar made a big difference but the rims were quite rusty and i suspect the rust will return quickly

Cleaning rims newbie question
So i want to clean off decades or grim( and a little rust) from my dads bike fifties raleigh with steel rims . What's the best method ? I did a search but it threw up 300 results about rims

It's ok my local bike shop has tyres at the princely sum of 8 euros. I suspect at that price they are chinese but they'll do me for pottering

Curiosity got the better of me and just been out with a torch . The rear wheel does indeed have a fixed sprocket on the other side so it's original

Thanks you've been very helpful . My plan is to get some new tyres and see what it's like to ride and if i prove too unfit i'll look at fitting 3 speed gears
