Re: Reporting vehicles parked in a cycle lane
Is it actually unlawful in the U.K. to park a vehicle in a cycle lane if the cycle lane runs alongside the road without any separating barrier or signage forbidding parking?

Re: Can I ask a stupid food question please
IMO it’s not a good idea to eat a meal immediately before or close to vigorous exercise. Have a light meal at least two hours before hand, nothing too heavy. If you feel the need for a small snack after that or during exercise that should be ok as long as it is truly small.

Re: Walking, Inclines & Fitness
I would say 8% average gradient over 3 miles is definitely not easy and potentially tough dependent on how much effort you apply.

Re: Peak Flow
My peak flow is rubbish well below normal levels. Doesn’t bother me when cycling but I notice it when running.

It makes you poorer than owning a less expensive bike

Re: Cycling after Prostatectomy or brachytherapy
Despite the radiologist reaching a provisional conclusion of Stage 2C cancer PIRADS level 4 (likely), a biopsy of 22 samples found no evidence of malignancy. It did however find evidence of inflammation, the cause of which given the absence of any discernible physical symptoms is unknown, The consultant told me that the inflammation should clear up by itself. He also added that when lesions are ‘scattered’ within the prostrate it’s difficult for a scan to distinguish between inflammation and cancer. So no treatment for me but ongoing monitoring of PSA levels.David2504 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2022, 6:00pm I am interested in this thread as I have suspected PC with a biopsy appointment on Sunday. I casually asked my GP for a PSA test when in the surgery on a relatively trivial issue. Two blood tests followed with readings between 6 and 8. I was referred to urology at the local hospital. Prior to my appointment I had a MRI scan. On the day of the appointment a physical DRE test found nothing unusual other than a ‘slightly’ enlarged prostrate. However the scan results which came later in the day after my appointment found lesions though one was described as ‘equivocal’ and I was placed in the likely category 4. The MRI scan did not find any evidence of cancer outside of the prostrate. So now I await the biopsy and then a further wait for the results.

Re: Weight training
Problem with weight training is it’s boring and wastes energy that could be expended doing more interesting things. I occasionally dabble but never stick to a regime for that reason. Of course there’s always old fashioned body weight exercises such as press ups, squats, lunges, tricep dips, sit ups of many variety, planks and bridges.

Worth it to some. Not worth it to others. All depends on the value you put on the service provided.

Jon in Sweden wrote: ↑6 Sep 2022, 6:47pm I am very tall and burn an awful lot of calories. I struggle to hold onto weight if I'm cycling a lot, and with the effort of moving house (internationally) and a now much more active lifestyle, I've lost about 5-6kg over the last 2-3 months. Down from 110kg, to about 104kg.
I know how to eat well, and how to pack calories in, but the sheer calorie burn cycling 200km a week..... Swimming every day (only 10-15 minutes, but the water is starting to cool now, resulting in more calories burned) and cycling the kids to and from school. I also spent about 3hrs down dismantling a neighbours tree and processing the firewood.
As an example, this is what I've eaten today.
Greek/Turkish yoghurt - 10% fat. 500g with stewed apple/jam/sugar for first breakfast
500ml tropical juice during my 50km morning ride.
Porridge - 125g oats, 450ml full fat milk, 20g sugar
Cornflakes (not an ideal lunch, but it was a busy day). 125g. 600ml full fat milk. 20g sugar.
500g fruit yoghurt
50g sweets (a rare treat, prior to starting my neighbours tree)
Dinner: 250g pork roast, 300g mixed veg, 800g potatoes, 40g butter. 500ml beer.
I'll have 400g or so of homemade stewed apple before bed.
And I'm struggling to maintain weight on a diet like this!
What kind of tricks do you guys have to avoid unwanted weight loss?
