Is it possible your max HR may be lower than three years ago?NATURAL ANKLING wrote: ↑9 Apr 2022, 10:42pm Hi,
By Wednesday this week I will be on ten miles a day in 2022![]()
Bad start in january after struggling with stupidly high BP over xmas.
Typical hear rate is just 70-71% of my max HR, over the last three years![]()
In 2013 it was 84%!
I normally would hope to do 80% on the road and 90%+ on the turbo.
Felt rubbish for three years on medication.
But When I stopped meds It goes back to 80% and feel half normal too.
I have managed to half my dose this year and a ride last monday was very encouraging, looking forward to better days.........

Re: Momentary Heart Rate Spike 223bpm
Well it’s now been over two months from my original post and I’ve done loads of cycling and running and am still alive, fit and healthy. I’m certain as I can be that momentary spikes in HR lasting a second or so without any physical symptoms are due to equipment glitches.
And, in the interim, I’ve had a visit to the hospital as a follow up to the bowel cancer screening programme (all clear btw), where two different nurses checked my pulse for regular rhythm before and after the rather interesting procedure I was subjected to. All good with a regular heart rhythm.

The soon to be defunct Cumbria is dreadful, but they do have a difficult job with a large area and many remote roads

Re: Getting going again after Covid
In early 2019 I was hospitalised through flu. At the time I was a runner. I found that it took quite a while to recover my pre illness fitness, My first few runs even though slow and short my heart rate was in over drive, and breathing laboured. Things gradually improved but took around three months to properly recover. So slow and steady is my advice, and the most important thing is to listen to your body and adjust any planned exercise accordingly.

Bar End Mirrors on Drops
Anyone tried using mirrors fitted into bar ends on drops? If so how useful do you consider them to be?

Whoops sorry forgot to include above. Whether you agree or disagree I bet you a penny you will like this YouTube documentary.
End of the Road How money became worthless
Suggest you watch first 5 mins if your hooked good. If not good sun is coming out good for cycling.
Meanwhile I am off to another bank appointment. For some strange reason they won't lend me any. They are correct.

Re: 10 Miler per Day 2022
Despite resuming running three days a week, still on target with an average of 10.4 miles a day. Total miles so far 887. Ascent 58,940 feet. Time taken 63 hours, which works out an averaged speed of 14 mph.

Re: Pedals creaking
An interesting discussion on squeaks and creaks.
As advised I started with the simple and sprayed my cleats and pedals with WD40. It worked. Creak disappeared. I doubt that it’s a permanent fix though. Will wait and see now long it lasts.

Re: ...where else for decent cycling insurance
I found the cheapest option was to add my fancy pants bike as a named item to my household insurance. The basic household insurance already included theft from home/garage. By adding as a named item I avoided paying for that again with another provider, and ‘only’ had the added cost of insurance for theft/accidental damage away from home.

Re: Pedals creaking
Thanks for the replies. As suggested I will try one adjustment/treatment at a time, until I find the cause.

Re: Pedals creaking
Thanks. It’s not the seat post. Definitely coming from pedal/crank area. What’s more it’s intermittent and seems to occur during more vigorous pedalling action.Jdsk wrote: ↑22 Mar 2022, 7:17pm It's often difficult to work out where the creaks are coming from. Lots of examples in the archives.
On both left and right sided pressure?
I'd start by inspecting the threads on the pedals and refitting.
And then soaking the clip mechanism and cleats in WD-40 as a diagnostic test.
But I'd also check seat post clamp and saddle bolt(s).

Pedals creaking
Does anyone know the possible reason(s) why my pedals creak when applying pressure through pedal stroke? Doesn’t occur when spinning. Shimano clip in mtb style pedals.

Re: Oh balls. May contain tubeless tyre failure content.
Sounds as if the tyre was wrecked, so an inner tube may not have been much help.
