Re: Three Word Story Game (again)

Little Knot one-eye, Red Indian optometrist rode into Deadwood and shot up the blacksmiths anvil salesperson. "Cheeky!" shrieked Goldilocks and her three bear posse, predictably playing possum bawled bah bluebells, but the bluebells did not shrink like my jeans raising my voice. I see a li...

Re: paraffin blow torch

It's a firm fact (although not one documented in wikipedia) that no-one in the whole world can operate a paraffin blow torch successfully. There used to be a secret society based in, I think, India somewhere who claimed they get them going real good, but it is thought that the last of this group di...

Re: paraffin blow torch

It could be that the non return valve is not sealing, try pumping up the pressure without any paraffin in and dunk it in a bucket of water if air comes out of the air pump there's your answer. it will also show if you've got any more leaks. Next make sure the jet is not blocked, take it out and pump...

Re: Apprentice Pieces

FW, you are a star as usual! :D The grip in the vice doesn't seem to be a problem, but gipping the boss is difficult. I reckon the the boss would expand away from the whole unit if it was heated very quickly before the whole thing warmed up. Needs a quick blast from a welding torch methinks. Going ...

Re: Apprentice Pieces

Thanks Malc, That sounds good. A weekend job I think. If the whole thing is thoroughly very cold, and the boss is heated very quickly, it could work. I got the impression the other day that the heat gun on max wasn't focussed enough and was heating the whole thing. I have a blowlamp, so that might ...

Re: Apprentice Pieces

Hi Mick Try putting your test piece in the freezer overnight, along with another block of something that will soak up the cold. in the morning put the block in the jaws of your vice and let it chill them down a few degrees. with a hot air blower or blow lamp Warm the outer bit you want to get off. T...

Re: Apprentice Pieces

Wow Mick I had to do a double take on your photo. your plate is almost identical to mine that I made in the training school at AEI in Trafford Park circa 1967 that was a super place to learn. 12 months of fitting, welding (gas and arc) foundry, forge, milling, center lathes, armature winding, more f...
