Re: Bees in the compost bin

If it's tree bees they will be gone by the end of July once the next generation is raised. We had a nest in the eaves a year or two back, they were no bother, the drones flying the guard pattern outside the nest were fascinating to watch. TPO Mrs FW did say that when the "Big" Bee appeare...

Re: Blackened rivets on Brooks B17

The blackening is very probably from the annealing process. When the rivet is formed the copper will need to be softened again, ready for fitting so it would be heated to a dull cherry red then allowed to cool, the blackening is the oxidation from the process and should wear off. I fancy Bruces opti...

Re: What way do you put oblong/rectangle patches on an innertube?

One general point that's just occurred to me: I'm not convinced that roughing the tube before applying the rubber solution makes a huge difference, except where a seam needs smoothing, but all kits include something to do it with. Many give you a small piece of sandpaper, a few include a special ar...

Re: Moulton TSR rear pivot

Hi Mick I've just picked up on your tread here. is the overall length of the fitted bearings greater than the length of the pivot? If not then leave the as they are and fit them. Have you tried putting a feeler gauge in between the bearing face and the pivot plate thingummy to check the gap? PS ther...

" 'Ears to you!" said Noddy while his wretched ding-dong flapped in the road. Mr Plod was directing Mr Wobblyman: "Please blow into this bag." "Who am I, darling?" "I'm your happy snappy purple chappy. The Great Purple Prose," wrote Horace whose father was unu...

Re: YHA prices: steep increase in the pipeline!

Prices seem to vary widely. The more rural ones seem reasonable, but for instance in Bristol a night in a dorm costs an eye watering £35! I could stay in a BnB for that. They should offer more camping at YHAs - that would be a popular option but relatively few offer it. And beware of unofficial YHA...
