Re: A66?

The leaflet https://highwaysengland.citizenspace.com/cip/a66-northern-trans-pennine/results/prabrochurefinal.pdf claimed: Use of the ‘old’ A66 as part of the local road network will deliver safer, more enjoyable journeys for cyclists and pedestrians. This would be a reasonable approach - far better ...

Re: A66?

There's actually already a rather nice stretch of segregated cycle route on the dualled section east of the Mungrisdale junction. You mean this ??? https://www.google.com/maps/@54.6371946,-2.9796235,3a,15y,113.42h,79.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slWpf83tuFZm2heqqmO5dsw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Re: Escooter trial to start

I challenge you to explain why one single set of regs that covers everything is more complicated than the layers of nonsense that we currently have which fails not only by having lots of different regs but also by what it fails to mention. Simple - No complex regulations at all - just abide by the ...

Re: Falling on the road due to cycle path block

If a motorist came on here having run over a cyclist - and then blamed the cyclist for riding on the carriageway rather than cross the road to use a cycle path on the other side - they would quite rightly receive no sympathy whatsoever in this forum. People need to look where they are going and be a...

Re: Escooter trial to start

But it is you that is wanting more complex regulations. We already have appropriate regulations for a low powered motor vehicle - ie a moped. These regulations were put in place when the concept of a moped was just a bicycle with a small engine to assist - exactly the market e-bikes are now intended...

Re: How to get things done: Chris Boardman

I fear the optimism is misplaced. My guess is that people will simply drive rather than cycle instead of using public transport, This is the typical middle class assumption that everyone has access to a car - which tends not to be the case with the people who use buses. There is a very large invest...

Re: Escooter trial to start

Overall as usual it's a hotch potch of nonsense. Just simplify the whole small e-transport thing and stop introducing layer upon layer of crap. It's not hard. Remove the need to peddle on an e-bike and then make everything fall into the same place. End result: An easy to understand system that does...

Re: Escooter trial to start

I would agree on the speed issue. And actually front wheel braking wouldn't be safe. The combination of the high centre of gravity of the rider not far behind a very small wheel means very little breaking force would be needed to tip the rider over the front. These things of necessity will have ver...

Re: Escooter trial to start

The details are out. I've argued that e scooters don't have a place anywhere for the last 18 months. But the world changed, people need to get to work, and here they are. Banned from pavements. Limited to 12.5 MPH on the road. Max 350w motor. No helmet or training required. Banned from pavements. W...

The only abuse I have had recently is from another cyclist who took issue with me riding bare headed.

Taking Social Distancing Seriously

Sounds like a pretty substantial car free zone is coming to central London:
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/may/15/large-areas-of-london-to-be-made-car-free-as-lockdown-eased
and no mention of pop-up-cycle-lanes.

Re: Cycling UK campaign - Ask your council for cycle space during lockdown

Both the photos in the OP are a lane wide so there should be no issue with moving away from the pavement. Surely you don't mean this one: https://www.cyclinguk.org/sites/default/files/styles/hero_desktop/public/media/%5Bfile%3Amime%5D/g.jpg?itok=mSxX3m5-&timestamp=1588161362 While that would be...

Re: Cyclist deaths double during lockdown

The pm is saying if you can; ride your bike to work!! But doesn't mention it can, evidently, be dangerous!! In case you hadn't been following the news there is a virus doing the rounds that is killing hundreds everyday. This means using public transport is dangerous in a way cycling simply isn't. C...

Re: SIGLE<DUAL FLOW CYCLE LANES

New to these forums,as a relatively new cyclist can u explain why cycling lanes are on both sides of a road. To understand this, you have to remember that the purpose of cycle lanes is not to help us in any way, but to prevent us causing any delay whatsoever to motor vehicles. So it is basically a ...
