Well everything went well.

Good to hear :) How long did it take you as a noob? I see someone else has asked about stand vs frame. What did you use?

Interested to hear how the op copes with the truing stage :) I really need to replace the rims on my wheels or get new wheels. Doing it myself is initially appealing but I can't help thinking that if I do I will probably wish that I had just paid someone else to do it by the time I had finished or w...

Best thing I have found for removing grips is meths. Just slide a screwdriver under the grip and then put a few drops of meths down and then remove the crewdriver. The grip should slide off easily then.

If you are interested in swopping some parts let me know. I have just taken butterfly bars from a touring bike and am going to replace them with drops. I might be interested. At the moment it is an idea that I am looking into rather than a definate plan. I don't find the drop bars comfortable and f...

My Dawes Sardar has Tiagra STIs and front mech with triple chainset (28-38-48 ).

I am looking at possibly going the other way and changing the drops to trekking bars and mtb components as I can't seem to get on with the drops.

Thanks for the report Brian. It sounds as if the new brakes have solved your problems. PH, I had thought about just fitting a new front brake as that does most of the work and would reduce the cost. However, I am not really happy with the drop bars on the bike which I find uncomfortable. Hence I had...

Interested to hear how you get on Brian, I don't really like the drop handlebars on this bike so I might look into how much it would cost to swap to a trekking bar and put v brakes and mtb levers and changers on it instead.

Mike, I am sorry to hear about your disappointment with the msx barbag. I can understand that it not matching the colour of your panniers must be traumatic. Perhaps the best thing for you to do would be to sell your panniers to someone who has a barbag and front panniers that will match? btw ...

Interesting tip about the tarp. I often see people and books etc give intstructions for packing bikes but had never seen anything about how to pack panniers/barbag/etc. I was wondering whether to take a tarp/basha and use it as a bike cover and tarp on tour and then tie/tape it round the bike to put...

Putting aside the misunderstanding about the original post and resulting posts in this thread I have just had a quick look at the site and it looks like a very interesting route. Added to my bookmarks.

Elaine, have you cycled any of it yourself?

Good to hear your trip was a success but sorry to say that the tent you bought is rubbish. Argos stopped selling the original Tiger Paws one and sold the one you have instead for a while. I heard opf several people who tryed it and reported that it had major condensation problems, leaked and was a p...

Mine is black. I knew they made a red/black version of their bags as I had seen them on the msx site. The pbk site only shows the black and my front panniers were black as well. I wouls have preferred the red/black for increased visibility. Surprised you weren't completely happy with the build quali...
