Re: Campagnolo Ekar to Ekar GT
Thanks for the guidance guys. Its having to change the brake /gear shifter that bothers me most ,bleeding the hydraulics and whether I can use the same lever clamp without having to re tape the bars. It looks as if there is only one socket screw holding the lever on but I don't know if the Ekar GT is the same. I assume that the GT needs more throw in the lever to climb onto the bigger sprocket all else being equal .

Campagnolo Ekar to Ekar GT
I have the Campagnolo Ekargroupset on a 2023 Orro Terra C gravel bike . I realize that some parts are not interchangeable with the Ekar GT. Is there anyone who has practical experience of changing over from Ekar to Ekar GT . I wish to use the 10-48 cassette and a 36 chain ring which is why I want to make the change to the GT .Do I really need to change the calipers and levers as both cassettes are 13 speed and I assume the offset in the wheel build and OLN of back wheel is good enough for the cassette? Thank you for considering this

Re: Brake blocks for chrome rims.
I have a 1939 Hetchins with stainless rims, it was impossible in the rain with all the blocks I could get. Then I discovered the fibrax blocks with leather inserts . Definitely an improvement and seem to get better as they absorb road grit . However rusting is not a problem with stainless ,cracking around the spoke holes can be .

Re: Prostate advice
This what I have been told by 2 consultants . The PSA test is prostate specific antigen . The absolute value is not the important thing the important thing is to build a profile specific to you . Yes there are approximations of age and level but regular PSA tests and keeping a note of them is very important . Then if it suddenly increases one should look further . Because the antigen is released when the prostate is irritated i.e. cycling ,sex, it is best to adopt a regimen of 3-5 days ,no cycling ,sex etc.Even a Urinary infection can alter the outcome .Remember the more consistent your prep the more consistent the readings. The weakness of psa testing is they can't test for the cancer only the antigen which is like looking at the cousin not the mother /father . If the readings jump then usually a hi res MRI and if that shows irregularities a biopsy . Not a very pleasant procedure that does have some risk ,is invasive given the location of the prostate and is expensive for the NHS I hope this helps

Re: Specialized Diverge Gravel Bike Torque Settings
One suggestion about the torque setting for through axles . Check to make sure you can undo it with a hex wrench on a multi tool .Its when you get a puncture that it can be a problem .

Re: Sturmey 3 sp issue
I had a problem with the pulley moving where I had mounted it on the seat tube . That made the cable loose . Once that was sorted no further problems . If the wheel nuts were loose enough to let the axle move ,that too could be a problem .Till the tyre hits the chain stay

Re: small old thread size
Try 2 BA It was a popular thread for old British bikes .However as British frame builders fitted European gears I believe some used 5mm metric but also in two pitches . I vaguely remember one was the current pitch and another, the taps for which are scarce . Be very careful testing with a tap as 2 BA and 5 mm are close . Hopefully someone else can help with this

Re: Campagnolo veloce freehub advice
Thank you for the help. Just one other question . By end caps do you mean the 17mm hex that looks like an old fashioned cone on loose ball bearing hubs ? I have never played with ball race axles before as all my other bikes are much older technology, cones and ball bearings .

Campagnolo veloce freehub advice
I have a 2004 campagnolo veloce freehub that has only about 2000 miles on it . It came off a show bike that was never ridden .
I noticed a very slight rubbing sound when in the bike stand freewheeling. After moving the cassette I see that there is slight play on the inner freehub bearing resulting in the freehub rubbing on the hub flange. My question is how do I remove the freehub from the axle and can I replace the 2 ball races in the freehub ? I have seen some youtube that showed using an Allan key in the axle end but it appears there is only a smooth hole where the skewer goes through . Secondly can I buy replacement parts or does the whole hub have to be replaced ?
The whole bike ( 2004 Flying Gate ) has been built up to 2004 period correct to match the frame date so restoration is important to me .
Thank you in advance for any advice offered

How about a curtain track fixed to the ceiling curved if necessary and a curtain .If you pick a patterned fabric it won't show the odd marks for years

Re: Gout in the hands - flare up
I suffer from gout and find that dehydration guarantees a flare up. 200mg Alopurinal is ok and can be given in higher doses . However
as you may be aware re occurring gout permanently damages the joints leading to osteo . I would ask for a blood test for uric acid levels and without doubt address the dehydration . If the level is elevated you stand a better than average chance of kidney stones as these form on a crystal of uric acid . Don't ask how I have learnt this, the very painful way. The colour of urine is an approximate indicator of dehydration . You may also be aware of the things containing purines Namely some nice things spinach, legumes ,beer ,etc

Re: Bike Paint
2 pack paint using the isocynate hardener is extremely dangerous because there are no chemical cartridge filters that stop it . PPE forBrucey wrote: ↑22 Jun 2024, 1:59pmOne of the reasons you can't normally buy two-pack paint is that the fumes contain cyanide. I think the fumes from those aerosols may be similarly hazardous.torrens wrote: ↑21 Jun 2024, 2:52pm This “2 pack in an aerosol” stuff intrigues me. The hardener’s injected by pushing a pin or button and then the paint has a pot life of a few hours.
I imagine it’s horrendously harmful if inhaled so you’d need appropriate ppe of course. I’ve never tried it but I want to!

working with it is air fed respirator and a spray booth. One notable property is it smells quite innocuous almost like almonds unlike the nitrocellulose lacquers acrid stench but it is far more deadly . As Brucey says above not for the weekend warrior

Re: Securing and transporting bikes in small van
I have a vito van and use a cut down thule roof rack fastened to the floor with 3 bike racks attached to it . Whether this could work in a smaller van I don't know but just offer up the idea .
