Re: What Next - Recommendations Please!

>>You don't say : budget; available time; and time of year. These all affect choice (or recommendation). Time-wise, I think a small number of months, maybe 3 max. No restriction on budget (within reason) or time of year. Not sure about Asia - I'm not great with foreign languages so, I would probably...

What Next - Recommendations Please!

Hi All, Did the LEJOG in July and really enjoyed it. However, now I'm thinking about what to do next. It needs to be something with a distinct purpose ie. an end-to-end or similar, and lots of interesting scenery. I was thinking about something like the US coast to coast or maybe an end to end in No...

Re: Tent advice please

Hi, Ive just got back from doing the LEJOG with my tent - a Tera Nova Laser Compeition. This weighs about 1kg and packs really small. I think it costs about £200 and is the same design at the Akto. There's enough headroom for me (I'm 6 foot), unlike the Akto which I find a little low and the porch i...

Re: My backside and further advice

Thanks guys. I don't have any problems with my backside such that cream would help. It's usually down to pressure points between the bones in my backside and the saddle itself. These points become bruised and painful after a few days. Interesting idea to take a spare saddle - I wonder whether changi...

My backside and further advice

Ok, it's now only 2 1/2 weeks away and I'm starting to get nervous. Firstly, I'd like ask for any 'words of wisdom' from the collective guru-ship on this forum. If you had one good bit of advice or warning, what would it be?. Secondly, on previous touring trips, I've usually suffered from a painful ...

Re: Edinburgh & the A90 crossing at Crammond bridge

Thanks everyone - that makes thing a lot clearer. Also, didn't know that the west side of the bridge was closed. However, from Google pics, it appears there's an underpass to get from one side of the bridge to the other (just north of the tolls?).

Ta,
Dave

Edinburgh & the A90 crossing at Crammond bridge

Hi All, Just researching the tricky bits for a hopeful LEJOG in July (not long now - gulp). Anyway, my route unfortunately does through Edinburgh and I'm reading the CTC suggested route from Edinburgh centre to the Forth road bridge. I can follow this well on Google maps up to the point where you cr...

Maps & Info en route

I'm planning to do the LEJOG later this year and was wondering about maps and other info. I think the usual approach is to get a detailled road atlas and rip out the appropriate pages. However, I'd really like something like OS 50K landranger mapping for the whole route - obviously this isn't practi...

Returning from JOG

Hi All, I'm looking at doing a LEJOG route in July and was looking at the tricky issue of how to get back from JOG. I intend to camp and so the bike will be quite heavily loaded. I was thinking of getting a hire car down to Penzance which I think is easier than hauling a fully loaded bike on/off tra...

Then you can tell the builder what saddle height, setback, reach and drop you prefer, measured from the Galaxy, and they can ensure you get the right seatpost and stem. Well, it's not a given that I'd actually want exactly the same fit as the Galaxy. That's why I'd like to sit on one at least, even...

Help with buying a bike!

Hi All, Over the last 6 months I've been riding an old Dawes Galaxy I got 2nd hand from someone from this site. It's a great bike and a superb intro to road cycling after many years riding my mountain bike. However, now I want to get something lighter and faster. I want a bike for club runs, occasio...

Deciding on a new road bike

Hi All, After getting a taste for road cycling once again, thanks to someone from this forum, I'd now like to get a speedy road racing bike. Trouble is, there seem to be so many different makes and specs, I really don't know what to go for. I know it makes sense to visit my local bike shop and try s...

LEJOG routes

OK, I guess this has been discussed on here a million times before but... I'd like a interesting route, doable in 3 weeks, using campsites and ideally via the Isle of Arran and Islay (I love the Scottish highlands). Does anyone have any recommendations?. Also, I'd like to try to sort the extremities...

Sore backside

hi All, So how do I avoid this then?. On the couple of touring trips I've done, I've always suffered badly after 4-5 days. It's difficult to explains but basically, it's the 'boney' bits of my backside that hurts. My saddle is a decent gel one which I bought to replace the harder orginal (on my Kona...
