I'd like to think I'm one of the friendly ones. I cycle the busway or more times most weeks from St Ives and find it very similar to what you describe.Adnepos wrote: ↑14 Jul 2023, 11:39pm I play a game when cycling in/out of Cambridge, alongside the guided bus route, to find out how close to the city I can induce a response to a cheery ‘hi’. I’ve sometimes had a kind of response as close in as adjacent the Science Park. Beyond Oakington (abt 8 miles out) you can pretty much guarantee a genuinely friendly response. There’s definitely more Lycra the further you get from Cambridge…

I ride on the left but sound my bell when approaching a bend or turn I suspect someone else might be on the wrong (IMO) side off.

How are you finding the Fazua drive train? Love mine and a really good option for getting more exercise than my older bosch powered emtb.

They also seem to have completely missed the mens race. Can't see it anywhere on iplayer. Any chance there is just a delay uploading it?

Awful image quality and coverage of commonwealth today
Trying to watch the women's commonwealth race this morning on the BBC and they are having shocking quality on the video. Add in dropping coverage of the race over to iplayer in favour of the athletics with 20km to go it's clear how much they care about cycling.
Edit: apparently the video is courtesy of Sunset and Vine so not the BBCs fault.

Re: Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee
I find a cough or loud freewheel tends to do the trick - if not a polite, but firm, "Excuse me" usually does.

Re: Should I cycle to work?
Where are you based? A reasonable, safe route to and from work will play an important role in keeping up the commute.
I started about 18 months ago on a bosch powered emtb. That gave me 85Nm of assistance. I got myself a new electric bike with a lower powered Fazua motor bike this spring as I had built up my fitness and didn't need quite as much help. It's definitely a good idea to go for the electric bike and you can and will lose weight and get fitter if you also manage your diet. I've gone from just under 16st down to 13st in those 18 months.
I know the money isn't a consideration but I bought the bike on the cyclecheme at my workplace and the monthly cost is less than I would be spending on diesel. I also feel happier after the ride.
Final thought is go for a bike you can fit panniers to. A backpack gave me very tense shoulders and a headache as you described. The panniers made all the difference.

Re: Google maps cycling Vs walking.
Is it something as simple as google maps planning the cycle route avoiding footpaths as they are not for bicycles? If they are strict they will route you on Roads, RUPPs, BOATs, bridleways, etc but not footpaths. They may also not be able to differentiate between footpaths and shared use paths?

Re: Wheel building workshop - Cambridge 5 March 2022
Very interested Dave but too short notice for me I'm afraid. How often do you run these?
Edit: I take that back - thought it was Feb not March.
Any sort of wheels possible? If I book for March and want to do some 650b gravel suitable wheels can you advise what parts I'd need to purchase if I want to bring my own parts?

Re: Highway Code revisions: Now implemented 29 January 2022
I assume from the start of the description the bridleway was at least the width of a small road but the only part that was hard paved was just wide enough for single file?
It sounds like the walkers didn't feel they should have felt obliged to move to the grass, rather the cyclists could, and by the sounds of it eventually did, ride round them on the grassy part of the bridleway.

I'd imagine you would be fine selling here then.MrCJF wrote: ↑4 Jan 2022, 3:14pmI was gong to post it on this forum, but may go the ebay route. Ebay's charges have increased a lot since they changed their payments system.jamm13dodger wrote: ↑4 Jan 2022, 2:57pm How are you selling it? I actually used DHL for a Brompton I sold in mid 2020. Fully insured - it wasn't cheap but easy enough and all got there ok. Not sure how they are coping at the moment though - a lot of couriers seem to be employing all and sundry at the moment which is having obvious consequences.

Re: Spare parts
Did you find the right part in the end?
If not, then some googling for the 2019 Raleigh Mustang suggests that the front thru axle should be a 15x100mm axel.
While not quick release this should offer the option you need https://www.wiggle.co.uk/brand-x-bolt-t ... lsrc=aw.ds
You'll need to work out what diameter yours is on the threaded end but hopefully your current axle might be marked to show that.
