There will be a small chain coming out of the one end of the axle , which will meet with a knurled boss at the end of the cable. You need to unscrew this, and note where it is (you will need to put it back in same place or the gears won't work) . Suggest you position the cable with the least tension on it. This frees the cable from the wheel. Note the up and down movement of the chain, it needs to be roughly same when it goes back together.
Undo the axle nuts and slide the wheel forward until it drops from the frame. You then unhook the chain and the wheel will be free. Note there are 2 tabbed washers on the axle which need to go back in same place too ( tabs locate in fork end) Replace tyre , put Wheel back in same place ( if it!s well worn the paint will help you decide where) and re attach the cable junction.

Re: HELP bottom bracken from old mountain bike
If you can get the frame over a vice you will probably get a better grip on the flats of the bracket cups, and you can use the frame as a lever .

Re: Gravel rash
To add to my prior post, scrubbed and hurt like h@@l . The lovely nurse said that she had to get all of the stones etc out or it wouldn't heal properly . Afraid that you ( or someone) will probably hurt you more than the fall did to achieve this. But worth doing properly at the off to prevent secondary infections around any lurking debris.

Re: puncture protection fluid
Have heard mixed reports of slime and similar. No personal experience.
Someone (Halfords perhaps?) used to do an inner tube you could remove without removing the wheel.
A straight tube, sealed at both ends with the valve in the middle. You would need 2 , one in the bike and the spare . Again never tried it but always thought it was a sound idea.

Re: Gravel rash
Pretty much what JDSK said earlier in the post.
When I was a youngster I dropped a machine in sheet ice on a bend and slid for an impressive distance.
All clothing trashed and extensive gravel rash on arm/ hip/ knee/ shoulder/ elbow/ forehead ( before I started wearing a helmet on the road) . Casualty , whole lot scrubbed in a mild antiseptic solution and advised to let as much air as possible get to it all.

Re: Tory Peer seeks to ban use of mobile phones by pedestrians
Absolutely 100% in favour of this. I still have back knee and shoulder problems from a pedestrian talking in her mobile stepping out in front of me 25 years ago. I was so close I didn't have chance to take evasive action ( there was a car coming the other way ) bike trashed too . She managed to get alongside the front wheel and in front of the bars. It was a pelican crossing too , which she had studiously ignored . Several witnesses exonerated me. Didn't make the injuries any less uncomfortable. I am heartily sick of pedestrians wondering in front of me when driving . I consider myself a good driver who observes what's going on but it seems to be getting worse to me. Bring on a Jaywalking Law say I.

Re: Self-driving car users should have immunity from offences
Wasn't the tube accident something to do with the driver being asleep and the tube 'automatically ' cornering too fast ?

Re: Self-driving car users should have immunity from offences
Isn't it a Google Autonomous Car that can't spot cyclists in the dark. I have a history in law enforcement and my initial reaction to this is EEEEEK.

What axle nutt said too .
And I don't know what relevance Bus Passengers have here . THERE'S A DRIVER ON A BUS .
Wasn't there a Tube accident caused by an element of automation recently? Tubes run on tracks that cars and bikes rarely go near .

Re: Hilary Stone Cycles
He has been 'missing' from Cycle jumbles for a while now . Although my mate did see him at one recently .
I believe he relocated from Bristol to Merthyr Tidfil ( sorry if spelling awry) some time ago but he has more recently been rumoured to be in France . His son Kia was racing there last time I spoke to him (a couple if years ago) I heard through the Grapevine he has sold the Hilary Stone Cycles Stock (Golden Age Cycles?) but none of this is solid just rumour and speculation.

Highway Code is only a guide. No real clout in law I fear.

Re: id my chainset...
I thought one of the. 'Advantages" of a larger BCD was the ability to change the rings without taking the crank off the axle or removing Pedals. But probably more about rigidity with the larger rings associated with smaller wheel machines in this case.

Re: id my chainset...
Pretty sure it's a Stronglight Derivative. Looks like an 80 except the bolt circle diameter is a bit bigger (or is that just a trick of perspective with the large ring? ) than the usual 80's.
Mid range job, would have had the logo painted on and they rub off fairly easily in use.
Stronglight produced many derivatives , Peugeot Branded Chainsets are clearly based in the Stronglight design (and very probably made by Stronglight) . Lower end ones have a ring swaged on rather than bolted.

Re: "My dog may chase you, but he's friendly" today's ride
Out of control dogs are a flaming nuiscance. And as retired Police Officer I can't believe more wasn't done about the miscreant mentioned.
But to lighten the mood a funny dog story.
Riding out to view a local road race, travelling on a remarkably straight road with many other groups in sight. Jack Russell lurking on a slightly elevated front lawn , having great fun launching itself at every one of the passing cyclists ankles .
Our group happened to have me on my Trike . Jack Russel went for the ankle ,clearly not realising there was a wheel in his path , and ended up doing a brisk turn on the wheel. Then dissapeared into the back garden at some speed, and didn't re appear.
Nearly caused a serious accident, everyone who saw it was killing themselves laughing at the spectacle.
Not sure if it cured him of the habit.
