Re: Circuit of the Luberon

Have a look at There's a section on French campsites which might be useful. Also the Michelin Camping guide. We did the Luberon loops in 2013 on a tandem, but stayed in b & bs, and found the hills fairly easy. Strong wind was a problem though on one day in September.

Re: Fitting folding tyres

I understand exactly what you are getting at, DaveP. Received three such tyres from PlanetX yesterday and had a grand wrestling match in the bike shed fitting two of them to the tandem today with the help of toe straps.

Re: Family tour in!

I think you'll find that there is a three week gap if you go out on the Med route and return on the Atlantic - check on website You could head south to Montpellier - did that a couple of years ago - quite hilly.

There are some very good photographs of the gorge by a Danny Clifford on and his route started and finished in Nice, I believe. Worth a look.

Re: West Coast of Argyll

An interesting and amusing book to help with your planning is "From the Mull to the Cape" by Richard Guise, although at Achahoish he decided against the Ellary road as he was running out of time that particular day.

Re: Touring in UAE/OMAN

Hi, Your questions about UAE/Oman brought back happy memories. I spent 11 years working in Oman and travelled throughout most of the country by motor vehicle and the Batinah Coast area in particular by bicycle and on foot. Re: Assynt Tea shops - Ullapool to Achmelvich

Lochinver Mission by harbour for meals and Drumbeg Little Soap and Candle Tea Room for tea (you'll need it by then!) are both highly recommended. If you're doing the loop and then heading south to Skiag Bridge, slight detour to Kylesku Hotel is also worthwhile.

There isn't, by any chance, a drum brake on the rear wheel of this tandem, is there?

Re: pedals, tandem and perfect kissing

As Crepello recommends, try Shimano M324 pedals - they work for us - just make sure they're adjusted to allow for easy exit. Patience and practice will lead to success! If not already members, join the Tandem Club.
