of course going to the GP would be the wisest move... but then again, hot baths and ibuprofen seem to have done the trick. A full seven days after the end of the ride I'm still feeling some pain and it gets very bad if I do too much (walking more than 500m quickly or riding quickly). But now it feel...

DOMS

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm fairly familar with DOMS. I get it after a hard run, especially if I've not been running much. Also sometimes after playing football. Tends to be worst two days after the exercise. But this is a bit different - and much more painful! Much more of a delayed onset and...

delayed leg pain after a long tour

Recently back from a longish cycle camping tour (the Raid Pyreneean Touriste version plus about 600km in southern & central France). I felt absolutely fine throughout the tour, with days ranging from 80km and lots of climbing to 160km on the flat, fully loaded touring bike. At the end of the tou...

Having done a little more research I can see that running a 34T on a Tiagra GS (medium) is going to be potentially problematic. The last thing one wants half way up a mountain is a broken rear mech. I currently run a 11-30T with a 50-40-30 chainset on the Tiagra GS, but perhaps safer to buy a Deore ...

@ byegad: yes of course, no 12. My thought was that I'd not even want to be introducing a 12 to any custom cassette, but my words let me down :) @ PW: I've not got a Deore rear mech, I've a Tiagra 'medium' rear mech. I'm trusting this is going to be ok, even if I have to be careful not to enter any ...

Pick n mix cassette

I'm soon to embark on a three week cycle-camping tour of Southern France, taking in plenty of climbing. I'm working on an optimal rear cassette and have recently taken delivery of a Deore XT 11-34. With a triple chainset I don't think I'd have much use for 11, 12 and even 13 on the cassette and woul...

pedals - cleats/toe-clips/nothing?

This is an interesting question. I've ridden with SPD type cleats for a few years now and have found that on long rides I tend to get a numb feeling and then pain in the soles of my feet. I thought maybe this was because all the pressure was being concentrated in a single spot, or that there was lit...
