Re: Replacement for my Tera Nova Voyager
Yes Hillebergs tents are expensive when compaired to other tents that are available with similar specifications.
You say your current tent is 14 years old.
If you work out roughly how many nights you have spent in the tent and assume that the Hilleberg will last the same no of nights, how much more per night would it cost you?
I suspect the figure would be no more than a couple of pounds per night and that the Hilleberg will probably last longer as well.
I am fortunate to own two Hillebergs and just love the quality of the product.
The old saying goes "You will appreciate the quality long after you have forgotten the price"

Re: Stove Wind Shields
£23 for a small piece of tin foil,
Is it just me, or does that seem a bit steep?
I would buy one of those disposable roasting tins from the supermarket and make my own.

Yes, we are camping.
We will need access to 240v somewhere on the site to re charge the batteries.
Any campsite recommendations would be appreciated.

Yes, depending on the weather I think knowing where the hostels are could be useful. Are these normally booked ahead, or do you just turn up?

Eilean Fraoich near Siabost. Small but reasonable facilities.
Horgabost - great views, simple facilities, very popular but should be space at the time of year.
Balranald - has a drying room! Had to tie tent to picnic benches due to wind.
Otter’s Edge - just been taken over by new management. Simple, flat with kitchen.
Scurrival! Cheap and had a kitchen again.
Moorcroft - can’t remember much about that one.
Not sure about charging for bikes. Most have a website or Facebook page for contact.
We also wild camped for a few nights. Beautiful but completely lacking in electricity!
Martyn
Its useful to know which have kitchens. I am assuming that would mean we could get the batteries recharged.

I was thinking of before that car journey. Because it might be easier if the start were at another station...

We live near Newcastle Staffs so were thinking of overnight in Moffat and then on to Oban the next day.
What other location were you thinking of for the start?

Re: New trip planning May 2024
I too am concerned about my friends abilities following the Chemo. He is very keen to go, but the thought of getting stranded in the middle of nowhere concerns me.
Cycle travel shows the Caledoian way as having 13,500ft ascent and descent whereas the Hebridean way shows only 7,500 (moderate) . I took this to mean that it would be somewhat gentler than the Caledonian Way we did last year.
I remember the steep climb out of Fort Augustus with a nearly flat battery was a struggle.
What do you mean about a shuttle bus?
Isn't the recommended route south to north because of the winds?
Thanks
Ian
