Re: Steering tighter in cold weather?

Thank you all for your responses.

To give a bit more information, the bike has an aluminium frame with carbon forks/steerer and the headset is integrated type with cartridge-style bearings.

It lives in a mostly unheated room and had no problems at all with the steering until the cold snap started. I hope to take a good look at the headset this weekend and will report back with my findings.

Should anyone else have any ideas, they would be most welcome as I'm determined to solve this mystery!

Good luck correctly installing carbon components without a torque wrench.

Brucey wrote: 7 Dec 2023, 12:19pm er, I'll say it again, for anybody not paying attention the first time; you only need to buy one torque wrench provided you have the right extensions.
So a torque wrench which goes up to 15 N m is suitable for pedals, bottom brackets etc. ?

Steering tighter in cold weather?

I've noticed that the steering on my road bike has become tighter since the cold weather started.

Could it be grease in the headset thickening in the cold, the headset components contracting slightly and putting pressure on the bearings etc, or something else?

I just thought I'd ask before I try adjusting the top cap bolt a bit, thanks.

Re: Why my new bike creaks.

Do the handlebars turn smoothly?

I was thinking maybe the headset might be a little tight?

Re: Rest light on seat stay

Cateye rear lights are pretty good and the range should suit most budgets. A bonus is that some of them run for ages on regular, replaceable batteries.

A bit more information is probably needed to make a recommendation, for example: your budget, power source, features required etc.

? It's got the same type of battery.
Yes, that is true, and if it should set alight I can deal with it. The recipients of the cheap night lights might not be able to. I just think it was a bad idea; that's all I wanted to say.

They won't be needing the hand warmers if those lights go up. Seriously though, don't you think it's potentially dangerous?

Janehop80 wrote: 11 Nov 2023, 4:33pm Are you still in operation PC Frank? I have reported my stolen Brompton to Somerset & Avon and have additional information/suspicion which cannot be submitted (because the thief was not seen) with my formal statement. I live in a social housing complex of around 30 residents in the north of the city and the bike was stolen at 4.30am this morning (11th Nov, 23) from outside my personal flat door. The only way the thief could have accessed this part of the complex would be with a security fob or security number using the keyboard outside the building and the security gate to garden and car park. This means that it is unlikely that the bike was stolen by anybody other than a fellow resident. I wonder if you can help.
With respect, wouldn't you be better giving this rather personal information to the police, and not posting it for general viewing?

Please take a moment to reconsider if this is a good idea. Cheap lights, of questionable quality, plugged into the electrics of an elderly person's home. How would you feel if one caught fire?

I hand out hand warmers as well

OK ... the recent thread where the poster was asking about GPS computers as he was getting one for Christmas. I don't have time to read the entire thread but you said something along the lines of "there's no need for people to have a dedicated GPS when they have a phone."

And this current thread ... the poster wants to buy an new e-bike, and you suggested they re-use an existing bike. No, the poster wants to buy a new bike, and that's what they are asking about.
