Re: Berridale braes

Inverness- Lairg - Crask Inn - Strathnaver - Bettyhill - turn right, along the top - JOG. Best part of the trip to me, and no A9!

Re: Fixed Gear/Single Speed .

I really like riding fixed and wish I'd got into it years ago. It is a different way of riding - evident when you are out with geared cyclists. Fair play to the fellow 'grovelling', though I've seen a bit of grovelling from geared riders. A long while ago I read (in pre-sportive obsessed C+ mag I th...

Re: Basic route advice

Gavin is spot on. I can't understand why anyone would miss out this ride!* On my last day I pushed off from Lairg to Bettyhill then along to top to JOG . Quiet road, good weather and I suspect I might even have had a tailwind though this might have been the excitement of making it to the end... *Wel...

Re: Does Orbit exist? Advice PLEASE

Now you mention it - yes, they do seem to have. Does anyone know any background to that? Thorn supplied a bike with the description ''the best bike ever- period.'' Or words to that effect. Chris found faults to that claim regarding construction of the frame and how components were fitted. Criticism...

Re: On which there is "religious" disagreement

Ringing a bicycle bell versus "calling out".
Pillow or no pillow.
Acknowledging other cyclists on the road.
"Buy the best sleeping bag you can afford" v have money left over for pillow (see above)

Re: Kit list help

You might not need insect repellant - perhaps buy some when you need it. I personally would not bother carrying deoderant. I got nice and clean when I stopped - otherwise it made no difference in the saddle all day!

A robust all-weather, do- it- all/ training bicycle that you use whilst your fair weather best bike relaxes in it's air conditioned shed. So they say anyway!

Re: Kaffenback rear cable hanger

I know what you mean about the Genesis frames - I tried out an Equilibrium and liked it. The Kaffenback frames are maybe not ideal, but fits the "winter iron" category well. Tektro make decent components - I guess part of the fun of a self build is sourcing the bits and finding out how the...
