Re: 1969 carlton clubman

Hi all and thanks for the input, I've decided on a 5 speed for sale local to me at reasonable cost to totally strip and restore in the colour and style of my original bike back in early 70's. I've no intention of cycling hundreds of miles on it as it will only be used on dry days to accompany my recently bereaved brother on some local cycling tracks. I've been using the business end of a spanner for over 40 years now and own and maintain a 50 year old classic car (engine/gearbox rebuilt by me) so I think I have the required "skills" for the job.

many thanks for all the help. peter.c :D

Re: 1969 carlton clubman

Thanks all for the info. I'm still looking for a suitable donor bike and there is a possible near to me but it's only a 5 speed not 10. Is it possible to convert from 5 speed to 10 at reasonable cost ?

Re: 1969 carlton clubman

question please, will 700cc alloy wheels that currently have tubulars on take the road cruiser tyre 27x1/14 gum wall tyres. sorry for my lack of understanding but its been 50 years since I last owned a bike !! I've seen a good candidate for my project but I'm unsure if the wheels will take the tyres I want.

Hi all and thanks for all your help.I've attached a link which I'm sure is what I had back in the day. I think it is RAL 6031 dark bronze green with the paint and decal details as per the picy.

thanks again for all the help. best regards. peter.c

1969 carlton clubman

Bit of a longshot this but worth a try, I was once the proud owner of a 1969 carlton clubman 10 speed for which I paid £29 10/- plus another £3 for toe clips, a better saddle and short alloy mudgaurds.I sold it in the early 70's for £25 which I've always regretted but needs must and cars and girls cost money !! So rolling the years on (just a bit) I want to recreate that wonderful machine and trying to see if there is a database anywhere that would give me the base colour information. Looking at RAL automotive colour pantones the closest I can remember would be RAL 6001 emerald green for the base colour but I would like to be sure before attempting the project. I'm going to try and attach a picture that seems to be what I had. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. best regards to all. peter.c
