Interesting that Mick's Daffs are flowering later when everyone says spring is arriving earlier......
Only experienced 3 springs here so far, 1st one the Snowdrops were starting to flower 9th Jan, last year and this it has been well into Feb. In fact last year thought I had lost them they were so late.

Tis a misnomer that Squirrels hibernate in winter, they don't and in fact their young are born in Jan and will be tucked warm in the drays, meanwhile the parents will be off defrosting their nuts!!!!! :D

Geoff, it is worth remembering there are endomorphs and ectomorphs and a mid-line combination of the two. Don't forget Chris Hoy and Co are very specialist highly developed sprinters and do huge amounts of weight training to get those thighs (phwoar). Have you been a runner? One of the girls at school was a runner and had very welldeveloped calves.
Look at the endurance riders on the track and you will see they have a very different physique, long and lean.

Sometimes we are what we are as someone else has posted. I know our clothing manufacturer tried to give me cycling shorts they had made for their daughter (a dancer), we had very dif shaped legs, or as they delicately put it I had "cyclists thighs"

If your legs are good enough to propel you and bike around what you want to do why worry?

Sidecars, apparently very difficult to set up.
With a baby born in August could not face the thought of time off bike. At 3 weeks he was in a trailer, padded and adapted with pillows.
Trailer was great on flat roads but very hard, like towing a dead weight up hill. We also managed quite a bit of Rough Stuff with it.
Following Easter, as soon as he could reasonably sit up, he was in a bike seat, however he was in and out of trailer for a couple of weeks due to bad weather.
Plenty of layers and baby blanket wrapped around him. Managed to get a "buggy" cover/cape. A waterproof hooded item with hooks and elastic that fitted over child and seat.
Bike seat was rear type and helps give wind protection to child from parent.
Both walking or cycling keeping extremeities warm was the worst/most difficult bit. Even cut up a fur lined/quilted pram cover and made mittens and still he got cold hands.

For next couple of winters he returned to trailer for colder days, then joy of joy at 31/2 he progressed to tandem, now he can solo!

Do remember when progressing to tandem, their work rate is not effective in keeping warm and being further behind you do not have the same wind protection.

Most of all enjoy the sheer pleasure of getting them out in fresh air, and showing them the wonders of the countryside, but be prepared to be looking forward to a nice picnic rest and find off-spring wants to be pushed on swings or play with a ball etc!!

Hmm well it coonstantly changes cos it is a form of rolling road map. Have recently driven with one (under protest, have very good retentive map reading ability for jpourneys). It is not as much of a distraction as fone/fiddling with radio etc. In fact it is perfectly possible to ignore it, just glancing at it occasionally, no more distracting than looking in mirrors I would have thought. With the voice on it tells you of an approaching junction where you have to turn so again no need to look at the device. Personally I think it is far safer than driver, driving with map open on knee/or delivery note with instructions that they are reading.

Personally have little use for satnav, but can see their value for trying to find a destination in a strange town, once at that town as it negates trying to follow a map as above. though do agree there is a worrying tendancy for inappropriate traffic to be directed down small roads/lanes.

Well guess we are all in support of commuting; 36 mile round trip 2-3 times a week depending on shift, ( if on 2-10 take the car halfway, though often do a ride before work). Fortunately have: shower, towels (courtesy of NHS), and aren't supposed to travel in uniform so have lockers and changing facilities. At least I do not have to worry about posh clothes!.
One commuter I knew would take car/bike/week supply of clothes to work Monday morning, ride to and fro rest of week, returning with car/bike/laundry on Friday pm.

Obviously Lancs is tops, Green Machine Horwich also an excellent LBS and have recommended it to non-cycling colleagues as they do not patronise.. even members of the fairer sex such as myself. Why will they not believe you can fix a bike just cos you are female and not take your word for it.

Anyhoo, it's food poisoning to day to add to my woes....

Hmm sounds like the same valentine I got, cranks def out of sync.

All the early audaxes are filling fast cos it's PBP, same hapened last time around so mere mortals who just want to ride some early season events do not get a look in, then there are masses of DNS's. I'd wait until after the qualification date for 200's before entering some.

That is precisely the point I was trying to make about the e-newsletter, repeatedly there are no spaces between words, it diverts from what is the message, looks unprofessional and makes the writer appear uneducated when a moment of care to re-read/spell check the whole publication should be perfectly possible. The CTC is supposed to be a creditable professional organisation representing all cyclists. Comments I have made re spelling mistakes have gone unheeded.

Started riding boyfriend's spare bike back in the mists of time when I started out, it was kitted with Brooks and there was little choice (i think) in those days, leather or nasty cheap plastic. My super Galaxy came supplied with Brooks and my tender bits just got used to it.
Greatest Trauma; my saddle was stolen first night of a cycle tour from Copenhagen YH!!!! Nasty replacement just about survived the hol not sure about my bum! Then had to break in another but it served well on LEL and various other long rides.
